Rolex

Recommended Posts

owning a rolex is like shopping at coach, everybody does cause everybody can. Notice how coach is at Outlet Malls. Now give me a bag or wallet from Louis Vuitton or Hermes and now we are talking

But let me tell you, attention pieces like watches are signature..express who you are, or your view of things. Me personally, would rather buy Cartier or Hermes, it fits my personality and style.

Couple of things

pick an era any era that impresses you and shape your style along a theme and the piece you pick will never go out of style so long as it is in context:

1.For example jet setters of the 1940-50's aviation. Bogart and Howard Hughes, streamline, stainless steel, you would think of Bretling

2. 1960's Euro...jazz, beret, ascots, Fellini...you might choose a top Euro designer Cartier

3. Don Johnson, Delorian, linen white suits, big hair, bold cheap earings, spandex....I think Rolex

Dig what I am saying?

Comparing coach to rolex is retarded. Coach bags go from 80 bucks to 1000. Compare coach to timex. I just have a hatred for girls who wear coach and think they are tough shit. Couch stuff is digusting and cheap. A lot of top designers, Gucci, Versace, YSL, Valentino, Dolce, Chanel, etc are at outlet malls too.

High end in terms of quality? Not necissarily. In terms of price, they are up there. Haute-fin bags top off in price where rolex begins.

I think you made my point coach nor rolex are high end and devoid of originality

I dont know the first thing about coach. But I wouldnt say Rolex is unoriginal. They did not invent the timepiece, but they did a good job of getting it where it is today. Granted, they havnt changed many designs in ages (or made slight modifications to), still, does not parralell unoriginalism. They are, after all, the ones that most people attempt to copy, and with good reason.

Rolex may not be in top echelon of watches, but its in the next one down, and it is king of its class. Comparing a Rolex to a Patek (or any of the highest end watches) isnt very fair to Rolex. Thats like comparing an s class mercedes to a rolls royce, and saying "man that benz is a piece of shit and isnt nice at all compared to that rolls". But compare that Benz to a Kia.....and you could use the same argument for the Kia.

I'm trying to think of anyone else I know who would hate a girl because she had an expensive, low quality purse.

... still thinking.

Honestly, who cares what other people spend their money on?

a fashion student... I never said I hated her for what she wore, I said I hated her for her attitude that comes with it, especially when there is no reason for it.

I'd venture to say a better comparison would be between BMW and Rolex. Both have products that turely are high end, however, both have recongized the profit in manufactoring more affordable models. Hence you can pick up a 3 series and some 5 series models in the under $40,000 range, and if you do a lease or buy a few years old it's a car you could swing on average incomes.

Going back to the car thing I think this would be a bit like people that have 10-15 year old Benz's or BMW's and still act like the car is a status symbol.

I collect watches, and I can tell you that Rolex is not worth looking at. They are of inferior quality. Timepieces are usually judged by their movement, and the Oyster Perpetual is one of the most inconsistent and unreliable movements in the industry. If you are looking for a good movement, start with Valjoux (commonly called ETA) and move up to the Zenith, which in my professional opinion is the best movement in the industry. Zenith actually makes their own timepieces (those familiar with the old pre-2001 Rolex Daytona would know it used to have the Zenith movement along with the Concord Cronograph Automatique). If you look hard enough at Zenith...you will see where the Submariner came from...another hijacked style by Rolex. Looking at ETAs, some watches of better quality than Rolex would be Omega, Patek Phillippe, Maurice Lacroix.

Rolex is famous in name only...certainly not quality or craftsmanship

It matters who you want to impress, yourself or others. There are 5,000 dollar Hermes bags that the average person would never look twice at. At the same time there are 300 dollar Gucci bags which people think must be expensive and wonderful.
