Question about heating up

Recommended Posts

Can you use a hair dryer to heat up a blade and curve it? I tried searching but I found nothing.

Maybe you can get your LHS to curve it for you...a hairdryer may not work that well. It might though, I've never tried.

Note, any heating or recurving only works on WOOD blades. Do not attempt to recurve any composite blades as you will damage and weaken them.

There's a guy on my team that custom curves his composite blades. He has it down to a science. Of course, even he will admit that it is a very expensive trial and error process until you get the hang of it.

Recurved A Sakic Zcarvon, lasted me months, the only reason it broke was because my coach broke it on the bench because it was an illegal curve (it was only about a 3 inch curve)

Most LHS, including mine, won't curve your blade for you. Store employees don't want to be on the hook for buying you a new blade because we broke it or you weren't happy with the curve.

Heat gun, torch (be careful!), or hot/boiling water are the best ways. Dunk it in cold water after to help set the new curve.
