TSN has learned that the Colorado Avalanche will name Joel Quenneville as their new head coach, replacing Tony Granato who had been at the helm since 2002.

When a coach is picking fist fights with his staff, you know he's gone.

When a coach picks a fight with Tochett he's a dumb ass on top of it.

finally. This makes me so happy, Granato got the avs no where, and look at all the talent they had. It was truley sad. Hopefully coach Q can get them back on the right track.

Well Quenneville has had his fair share of difficulties coaching a team loaded with "superstars". But honestly, how hard could it be to coach the Avs?

Yeah, I'd put my money on Tocchet every time. For as good as his rep is he always seemed to underachieve in St Louis.

Shit...I always thought his name was Joe. Anyway, Granato needed to be out of there. But the interesting part about it was, Lacoix came out after the playoffs and said he didn't hold Granato responsible in any way for their lack of success, but he blamed it on injuries. Were things really that bad between Tochett and Tony? You could sort of tell something was up during The Season. Seemed like they were trying too hard to be nice in front of the camera.

They had a fight at the practice facility one day near the end of the season. I don't know that Lacroix expected coach Q to be available well into the offseason. If he had fired Granato after they got bounced he would look like a prick for doing it.

Granato didnt get fired, he got demoted, he is now an assistant. I dont know what would be worse, getting fired outright or working as an assistant to the guy that took your job.

I have to agree with you. Did the blues ever make it past the second round under Quennville?

No, only 2nd round. I think that was one reason the Sens didn't consider JQ for Martin's replacement, plus the more defensive type of game he coaches (at least I believe he does, could be wrong).

I don't know if I'd consider Quenneville's style defensive.

If Granato did accept that demotion, I feel kind of bad for the guy. That's one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard.
