I lost track of how many different times the announcers talked about how great Datsyuk's stick was...'he says it is more durable,' 'he says it makes him shoot harder,' 'it is a new technology'

They had his points difference before using the stick and after switching!

There was another Wings game on Vs. were they were talking about the 9K and saying it was more durable...right after that Datsyuk's stick snapped and some comment was made about sticks breaking (not realizing it was Datsyuk's) and one of the announcers said 'Sorry Reebok'

What the hell is going on here?

Obviously the announcers are being given a "script" about what to mention. Since RbK is a premier sponsor w/NHL they will be given a couple of extra plugs per game.

Watch Monday Night Football. the first half is commercials and celebrity appearances w/plugs for new shows, etc...that have nothing to do with the game.

Al Morganti was talking about the exact thing this AM about ESPN and MNF.

I think the discussion of Datsyuk's stick had more to do with the new technology than anything else. I remember back when announcers spent half the game talking about how Kariya was using the same Ultralite shaft for a month back when those first hit the NHL.

Yeah, I noticed that too. After Dats broke it they HAD to mention that he says that it gives him a harder shot.

P.S. look at Marty St Louis' numbers after ditching the XXXlite ;) Maybe he needs to ditch the synergy and pimp a 9KO.

RBK is a major sponser, of course they're going to get plugs for their products. Gone are the days of ads being the 2.5 minute breaks between programming, they're everywhere these days. Whether it's so called "product placement" in movies and TV to announcers giving sporting goods plugs.
