Cobra 3000 vs. Pitch 3

Recommended Posts

Given a player that likes an aggressive forward pitch, which of these would you chose for your skates and why? Main considerations are durability or holder and steel, ability to maintain edge on the runner, and weight.

Durability -

Holder = Although I have never seen a PITCH3 break, Cobra is the strongest out there. Advantage Cobra

Hardware = the set screw's tooth on PITCH3 has broken for some people under extreme stress. Other than that, it's better than Cobra's exposed screw which collects water/moisture. Advantage PITCH.

Steel - Advantage PITCH. Best steel on the market.

Weight - Both heavy, PITCH is lighter

PITCH wins out.

I agree for the most part but I have seen the holders on some Pitches break down. The plastic that supports the bolt in the +1 position has been known to break down and you end up with neutral and -1 being your only options. It's still better than the constant screw breakage on the Cobras but it can still be annoying.

I had Pitch's all last year on my Missions and sadly the holders and blades were the only parts of the skate I didn't have durability issues with, but thanks for the heads up on that prob - I wasn't aware of that. As for the Cobras, I thought they were supposed to be bullet-proof, which is why I was considering them. I have listed weight last in my concerns because it is probably the last concern I have - I am not a light, speed-demon type skater, so the extra weight of the P3's or C3000's over the LS2 is not a major issue. Given this prob with the P3's, maybe simply lifting the heel of the LS2's that are already there might be a better option, although I hear the screws in them are a pain in the @ss too.

Is it plastic supporting the bolt - I though it was a steel notch on the screw fitting into a slot in the runner that held the pitch positions - I wasn't aware the plastic of the holder had anything to do with it...apart from holding the screw itself, of course.

The steel is fine but the plastic can give a little if you are a larger guy or a more powerful skater.

That sucks - I fall into both of those categories. <_<

Not to change the subject, But what's the deal with the NT5000? Major differences?

Much improved over the 3000.

Issues you mentioned above with the 3000's are resolved in the 5000's?

They shouldn't get as soft as the 3000s but the screw system is still the same.

I have owned a pair of S500s for about 7-8 months and have been playing with my pitch3s set to nuetral. Yesterday I decided to switch them to -1 (forward lean). As I was taking out the screws I noticed one of my skates was way off its nuetral setting and closer to -1. After taking the screw out it was obvious the plastic slot where the screw was was "broken down" as if the plastic weekend and just gave way. So who knows how long I was skating with my profiles off. I only weigh 185 and would like to think im a powerful skater but im probably not. I had tried the -1 setting previously and didnt like it but this time I took right to it, probably because I already had one skate practicly at -1. I would still recommend the pitch3s.

Are the T blades an option for desired pitch & radius?

they have options for radius, but not for pitch. It would take lifts/shims to adjust pitch with them.

I am going to see how I feel about the new skates tomorrow night, and decide from there, I guess. I just bought a new pair of Bauer 8090's for $225 CAD, taxes included. They have the LS2's on them right now, but the guy I bought them off of had them profiled at 9 foot radius with a forward pitch (then never skated on them because he realized they were too stiff for him). Standing them beside my Vectors which have 2mm heel lifts they are nowhere near as far forward, but my Vectors are set at an eleven radius, so I guess there be a lot of difference (putting a V on one foot and an 8090 on the other I can feel the rocker difference standing on the floor with them). In any case, I will prolly switch out the LS2's for one of the fore-mentioned options if they feel too wierd (never know though - I might give a set of T-Blades a run just to try them, although I've been told I'd hate them.
