GoHawks 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 Hey, I caught a game between Finland and the Czech Rep. on tv yesterday, and the Finnish team had a ton of players from the NHL in this game. It is the norm that if your team doesn't make the playoffs, you go play in the IIHF stuff for a while? There was a player from the Bruins, one from Florida, and Tuomo Ruutu of the Blackhawks. I wonder if it makes the team chemistry weird, having to play alongside some of your opposition in the NHL
DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 That is what happens in the Olympics playing for your country. I think there is more pride playing with your country men than playing for an NHL team. Think of Team Sweden in Turin. That may be Sundin's greatest championship experience.
DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 Well Sundin hasn't had any championship experience in the NHL, but I won't go there. er, too late. Even as teams get eliminated from the playoffs, if the tournament is still going on, they'll join their country's team for the remainder. I agree with DS that most guys take more pride in playing for your country, especially for europeans.
GoHawks 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 It just kind of surprised me because I'd think after a full season in the NHL they might want to take some time to recover, since a lot of times you don't have enough time to recover, but I see where you're coming from with the pride thing. swede 50 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 Doesn't the Luxembourg team have a Swedish coach? I remember i was watching a short resumé from the C-WC on Swedish tv last year. Luxembourg was playing against Bulgaria and some other c-nation. Not quality ice hockey but still fun to watch
Sven 1 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 Yeah, as far as i know the coach is Hakan Gronlund.Well this country has less than 500.000 people living in, what do you expect ;)But seriously, its really not that highskilled hockey, but when your friend plays on TV, you just have to see it.I called 7 (Irish) Pubs in my area and not a single one had Irish TV.. guess because all the owners are locals who run this biz (and are not irishmen). Dougie8 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2007 It just kind of surprised me because I'd think after a full season in the NHL they might want to take some time to recover, since a lot of times you don't have enough time to recover, Crosby will now have enought time to recover.. <_< Smyth has also backed down saying he's got a strained ligament in his knee.
