questionable mission stick warranty

Recommended Posts

So i purcahsed a mission m1 stick and broke it taking a slap shot, ive never broken a stick like that, and i am very easy on sticks. First off, I sent my stick out mid march and just recieved my replacement today. I was eager to see what I had recieved since they no longer produce the m1. A little background info: the original was a 75 flex since im not that strong with the elias curve. I had asked for a replacement of equal or stiffer (85) flex since a 65 would be too whippy. I also wanted a nongrip. Well today I got my package and opened it up only to find that it is a toxic stick, the low end blue one, I feel I was given a cheap replacement instead of something of equal value. What are your thoughts on this? Should I call mission and see what they say ? Maybe Justin can chime in.

I may not be too up to date on the years of equipment, but when was the last year the M1 was produced? As far as I know (and I could be wrong) the M1 hasn't been a top of the Mission stick for a while now. I'd just assume you got it for a discounted price compared to their high end sticks. You getting a lower end stick for a warranty replacement makes sense to me- they shouldn't send you a $200 replacement stick if you only spent $100 on the stick. Again, I could be wrong, just my first impressions.

This stick is 5 years removed from it's original release date. That's like the reason you got an entry level replacement. When it came out it was both the top, and bottom end stick. If you are concerned, call Mission's warranty department, like was just suggested and explain your feelings to them. None of us can help you get what you want.

well, in my opinion, even if you get a great deal on a former top-of-the-line stick you should get something equal to or better to replace it. I know that if THC would have sent me a 6.0 or worse for my v120c I would have been pissed. I was happy to get the 8.0 since it's a very comparable stick. In my opinion, you should expect to get a stick comparable in performance NOT price... it's not your fault that the stick was put on sale.

Who is saying they aren't comparable in performance. It's been almost 5 years now since that model first came out.

Complaining about a free item

I'm not saying that mission should send him a better stick but I wouldn't call it a free item, he paid for the stick, mission put a warranty on it so he should get something of equal value. If he won the stick online or something and complained about it that would be different.

I've seen the toxic and the M1. The toxic did not feel on par with the M1. It's almost like comparing a one50 to a Vapor XX. I was not impressed with the toxic(mind you I didn't play with it I just checked it out in my LHS).

It's a warranty against manufacturers defects, not a guarantee not to break. Which is why he claimed it's free. All of these companies are essentially giving you a stick they don't have to when it's broken during play in a "hockey play".

Bauer 50 to the Triflex is more like it. Actually comparable in my limited experience with both. Maybe he should give it a shot before he makes his decision. It's not like he hasn't had the option to call CS to this point, and he is judging the stick without using it.

On warranties you are getting an item of equal or lesser value. He's lucky to even get a replacement, as it was a closeout item from years ago. Chances are it wasnt a manufacturers defect either, but thats a whole new debate. Whether is a close comparison of the m1 or not, Mission feels that the toxic was a suitable replacement.

I called cs prior to me sending in the stick to see what I would get seeing as though the new models were 65 flex in int size. I was told I was going to recieve a Hex1 or a Pulse by both phone CS and by email. In comparison, if you break a an 05 stealth, you will get the new CNT, I've seen it done. What I'm surprised about is that they sent me their bottom of the line stick. It was like I paid for a SL, but got a synergy 300.

Irrelevant my LHS has still has 05 Stealths for $179, if I plunked down the cash and the stick broke within the specified 30 days, and was through a legit fault of stick manafacturing I would expect an equal stick in quality.

How much he paid has nothing to do with this....nothing zilch nadda. If a company has a stated warranty policy and the company did not fulfill this promise than that CO must be held accountable..hence this discussion.

If this stick in no way meets these requirments:over however many days, broke during actual play, etc...than the original poster should thank his lucky stars he got anything

There is of course the black and white warranty which comes with the sticks and would more often then not state that a replacement MAYBE given if broken within the initial 30 day coveredge.

But in the real world most companies would go the extra mile on CS to make the customer happy if a fault or inconvienience was caused by their product being faulty. It makes sense for Mission to send their customer something comparable or better if their aim is to perhaps try and win this customer back. If Im not mistaken allot of us might be hesitant to buy another OPS from any brand if it broke as easily as stated.

Im not saying Mission is wrong or right. Im saying they should be trying to smooth things over with their dissapointed and/or disgruntled customer, but every customer is different. Therefore I suppose it makes sense to offer them something like the toxic and if the customer kicks up a stink then send them something better. You always offer something small just in case the customer is one that is easy to please. Thats always been the policy for the companies I've worked for in customer service.

Just for arguments sake, how much did you pay for your M1?

I paid $100, they had the reciept showing that. I've dealt with mission's CS before and usually they are great, but this time I can honestly say I'm not happy with it. I will make the phone call Monday.

On another note, how would you guys feel if that everytime you send in your replacement top end stick, no matter what, they sent you the low end OPS, just because they can.

I would be happy they sent you what they sent you, because now you can call and they will send you probably a Hex and you will get 2 sticks for it because they probably won't make you send the toxic back.

With that thinking:

Buy a leftover car from a previous year say 2004(since thats rougly when the m1 was put out) and crash it into a wall. Are you going to argue to you're insurance company that you should be getting the price of a brand new 2007 car or the price you paid for the 2004 model?

In my opinion, it's kind of dumb to spend all this money on a stick which you know is going to break, playing a game like hockey. But the companies do have the warranty, so if they want to keep their customers, they should honor the warranty by giving you a replacement stick of equal quality. Otherwise the customer will run to another company where the warranty is always honored and then some. Sure, they don't "have to" give you a replacement stick, but in order to sell the sticks, they need the warranty, and in order to keep selling sticks, they need to honor that warranty.
