badly beaten up one90 skates

Shawn you are ridiculous, $500 one90s? I would rather get 5 pairs of S500. This poor guy just spent $500, buy a new pair? $1k? Thats league fee for almost a year!!

Regardless of whether or not someone has the money to drop an extra $500 or so on a pair of backup skates, it's a stupid purchase. And most people don't just have that amount of money lying around to spend on something that they don't need. That's nothing to do with the North American economy, that's people having to work for a living, and understanding the value of a dollar.

To my fellow Tamponians who suggested he buy a new pair, in the original post he mentioned he had them 3 MONTHS. 3 MONTHS for $500 skates is a little ridiculous. Yes they are consumables but I don't think anyone shy of the ECHL or NHL expects a pair of skates to last 3 MONTHS when they shell out $500+ for said skates. Shawn if you dumped $2000 on one of your guitars and they neck fell off after 3 MONTHS of playing ballads might you not be calling the manufacturer to inquire as to why. The only consumables I think should last 3 MONTHS or less are sticks, tape, toilet paper and porn. Not necessarily in that order.

Bad news. Tonight at my practice, when i got off the ice, i notice that the tendon guard on my right skates had broken again.

You're obviously doing something wrong.

From the sounds of it, and his desription, he has a serious toe flick going on. Nothing wrong with that at all, he is probably putting some extreme stress on the tendon every stride he takes. Calling NBH, tell them your situation, then maybe suggest you need a reinforced or a traditional tendon guard as the one90's is meant to give back.

But..the ONE90 flexible tendon guard is designed to give you more clearance for a toe flick.

Good on NBH for the free replacement. Certainly something like this shouldn't happen to the tendon guard after such a short time. Looking at the pictures the rest of the skate looks to be in good nick. One other thing about the ONE90's that is a bit of a disappointment is the stiching that holds on the plactic protector that is between the toe cap and the boot, the stiching is exposed and as it is a part of the skate that hits the ice I have seen the stiching break on skates which have only been on the ice 3 or 4 times, usually on the inside of the boot. If there is anyone at NBH that comes here and cares, this stiching is breaking and the plastic starts to flap around after only a few skates...the plastic should have a slight ridge to raise it above the stiching...

Is something pulling the tendon guard forwards while you skate?

It looks like the tendon guard is ripping from the bottom upwards; it might be doing this if the shin is flexing forward and pulling the tendon guard with it. I think that if the toe flick is causing the ripping, it would rip from the top down.

I wonder if the question about pulling forward is right. Maybe a sock or shin pad strap is catching it or over it? All of those breaks look like they went forward judging by the tears and the popped stiching at the back of the boot.

maybe even sitting in the bag. But considering it happened twice I think it might be related to the way he wears the skates/plays. Possibly a non sock tucker with tight socks that pull on the tendon guard when in a deep knee bend.

Right, but I was thinking that He is going past the limit of the guard's range of motion.

After further reviewing the pictures, It looks as if the plastic is broken, not just the stiching. Maybe the breakage in the plastic lifted the stitching at the point to which it is sewn in. Which in turn would explain why the tearing is at the bottom opposed to the top.

JR, dont the one90's that you got have different tendon guard? Or was it that yours were just filled in on the vents?
