Easton Stealth S15 question/problem.

Recommended Posts

Question for kid with the problem: Are you tying your skates evenly tight up the 3 ankle eyelets? The problem could be as simple as you're pulling the top eyelets tighter than the rest and causing the top of the skate to fold in on your ankle.

I actually tie my skates a little looser at the top few eyelets to allow for forward flex.

That might be the cause right there. By tying looser the boot isn't moving with your ankle as one when your flex forward. This would cause your ankle to rub against the boot and would also cause the boot to dig into your ankle on turns.

I'm not a 'Fitter' but Chippa's post makes sense-I see parents buy skates 1/2 to full size too big and kid gets blisters from foot moving in the skate. My guy likes a little looser in top 3 eyelets so he uses Vectors, can fine tune above skate lock to just snug enough to not get blister movement.

Those S15's should flex with ankle movement, not your foot moving in the skate. Curious how new skates will hold up-my 1300's broke down from stress-wonder if this composite boot material will be better.

They flex, but not as much as I like. I still have to do some experimenting with lacing and tying. The two time I've skated in them, I had them laced to the top so I had to leave the top few a bit loose. I won't be lacing the top eyelets the next time I skate in them, which should be tonight if I can make the skate.

I bought the S-15's a month ago, and I really like them. I started playing hockey again after 20+ years, and bought Bauer Supreme 50's as they were affordable ($129 clearance at Hockeymonkey). I tried them on at my LHS and ordered them. They were fine at first, but I started to get unreal pain on the outside of my big toe. I have a pretty wide forefoot. It was so painful that I couldnt skate 2 days in a row. There was this spot at where the boot meets the toecap that was digging into my toe, and my LHS said that the toecap couldnt me punched out....so, I started to look at other skates. I tried on the one95 (I knew that I was addicted to hockey again like crack, and would continue to play 2-3 nights a week, so I wasnt worried about spending some dough), but as soon as I slid my foot in, that same spot hit my toe and it was excruciating. I tried on the CCM u+, but it just felt akward and too narrow. The guy at the LHS said to try the Eastons as he said they ran wider. I am not a fan of the crazy way the skates of these days look, and the Eastons were no exception.....however....as soon as I slid it on, it felt AMAZING. I had absolutely zero pain, nor pressure on my toe. I also tried on the 1500, but felt the S15 fit me better. I used them that night, and for the first time in 3 months skated with zero pain. It was awesome.

My opinion of these skates should be taken with this in mind....I have been out of hockey for 20 years, and I am not up on all the new stuff.

I feel that the absolute best skate in the world is the one that fits you. It doesnt matter if a skate is the most expensive, or is even widely considered the "best" skate by experts.....if it doesnt fit, it doesnt mean s**t! I am not a fan of the look of these skates with the silver composite, but they fit me great. I am not sure how they will hold up.....but they fit me.

I had them baked and have been using them 3 nights a week for a month. They are getting scratched, and I have seen the toecap get shredded (which I see people complain about here). Seriously, if you are complaining about the aesthetic shredding of a toecap, you should have your man card taken away. Hockey equipment should get beat up aesthetically....it isnt a fashion show. I hate that I had to buy all new, shiny equipment to play again....I am glad it is getting scuffed!!! As a defensemen, I have also taken quite a few shots to the skate, and have felt absolutely nada. I really cant find anything wrong with the skate. It is so ridiculously light, it took me 10-20 minutes to get used to it. As far as the holder, I was told that it isnt as stable/sturdy for a bigger guy like me (6'-0" and 210lbs), but I havent seen or felt any problems. The LHS told me to stick with them, and if there is ever a problem they will take the tuuk's off my 50's and put them on the S15's.

Anyway, these fit me like a glove and feel phenomenal. Any problems are secondary when these seem to be the only skate that really fits me. If I find anything going wrong, I will update....but for now, since these skates allow me to skate pain free, I can only say great things about them.

A question for all you S15 users out there. Should I bake the skate or does it not matter? I know they are designed to be baked, but I have a couple friends that wear them that wore their skates right out of the box and have had no issues and they recommended not baking. I'm torn so any opinions will help.

Thanks.

Yea most LHS's have to say that - they don't want to ruin the skates, but take it from me I took a heat gun, then a big 3/4" nut and a 1" diameter eyelet and a C-clamp. I put the nut on the inside of the skate where the boot meets toecap, I put the eyelet on the outside of the skate so the nut would push through it - then I took the C-clamp and tried to clamp the nut through the eyelet, and it made a big bump in the skate in the area desired, and it gave room for my toe. Would not recommend it for the faint of heart, but only as a last resort, knowing if you screw up - they won't even sell on ebay.

Are they new? have you worn them yet? If not wear them for about 3 or 4 skates, if your happy your good to go - if you have fit issues, then give them a good bake.

Thanks for the tip - they are new and I'll be wearing them tonight for the first time. That certainly makes sense, its a lot easier to bake later than to try to "undo" a bake today.

I bought S15s two weeks ago. I ordered the solid steel runners and had them profiled they way I like and have now skated in them 4 times. Two practices and two games. The fit seems good and they are very light. First game they were a bit loose and sloppy so in practice the next day I really tied them tight. RESULT - No forward flex at all! So I unlaced the top eyelet and viola! They felt great! In my next game again the left the first eyelets unlaced and skated great. My onky beef is that I am also getting scbas above my anjle on the outside. I'm hoping a bandaid and some break in time will do the trick!

I too had this problem with my S15's. My outer ankle on my right foot was in some serious pain after the 2nd skate. I think it has something to do with the trim on the tongue of the skate and the location of your ankle. The trim was right on the ankle bone. It was baked but still the same problem. No problem with chafing on the left foot. I had a problem where the outer liner on the inside of the right skate was tearing so I returned them under warranty. Hopefully, Easton will replace the tongue with something different on the next model. I switched to Kor Shift 1's and had no probs with chafing.

Some guys mentioned issues with forward flex. Once they are broken in, they will have forward flex even with the 3rd eyelet tied tight.

I have had mine with no issuse of any kind (1yr) other than the forward flex situation. leave the top eyelet unlaced and fixed. As for ankle issues I would suggest to take them in and have them baked again.

OK... here is my update...I have now played a few games with the top eyelet undone and the forward flex was great. The first two games after undoing the top eyelet they felt terrific. I started, however, to get the irritation above my ankle that other guys have mentioned. This past Friday I tied up them realy tight, figuring like someone said above that the chafing would stop if the skate moved with my ankle and didn't rub against it. Well... WRONG!!!! It was freeking excrutiating!!!! It felt like my anke was bruised, not just irritated. I'm going tomorrow to bake them again and I'll tie them a little looser but if this keeps up too long they'lll be posted on EBay for sure!!!!!

I had the same problem (on the outside of my left ankle only though) on & off in both 1500C & XXXX - it also gets a lot worse if I don't lace the top eyelet.

I have to leave the top eyelet undone on my s11's. The problem is that the extra movement it gives caused the tongue to wear through the liner. My skates are trashed after only 7 months.
