I'm surprised you didn't get drafter into the WHL. I swear they drafted like every kid from Arizona that can skate. I'm pretty sure I seen one from Peoria too.

The team I played on for 4 years(long story) was coached by a guy who didn't get us any exposure to the WHL. He's very USA Hockey orientated so our '90 birthyear kids(myself) pretty much got overlooked in the draft.

A ton of 91's got drafted and the same happened this recent draft for the '92s. One of them was 2nd overall.

"Open tryouts" are fundraisers. The team may pull 5 out of 100 kids that try out one year over the course of the next 3 years. But if they want you they'll have a contract waiting for you. And most NAHL teams have enough of a network that they know which kids are potentially coming in, so tryouts are a formality.

The same goes for your roster spot on the CJEHL team, did he have a contract in hand for you to sign? No contract, no spot.

Kids have to be careful when they're dealing with junior programs - there's so many out there that run so far up and down the spectrum, you can get misinformed and mislead pretty easily. If they make an offer, put it in writing, every little detail. If they make too many promises about promotion, they're feeding you a line. The problem is that there is no regulation to the whole process. If you're lucky you play for a reputable Bantam/Midget coach who has some connections. Inviting kids to tryouts is a nice way to grab a few hundred dollars a pop whether they're good or not. If they claim to be a feeder for a USHL team, they're full of it, the USHL holds an Entry Draft and a Futures Draft each year, each with 18 potential rounds.

yeah they had me sign the contract and now i am setting up the schooling aspect of the team, but the first thing they had me do was apply for the clearinghouse pin throught the cjehl and i cleared it, then i had to sign this form. They also made some no-cut policy once you are signed for a one year contract, i also no another player in from team fla who signed with them also...it sounds like alot of ice time, so how bad could it be? i have talked to a few scouts from the CSHL they said they have no idea about it...so im not sure... but it sounds good...if you search CJEHL on google it shows some people saying that randly gumbley is a con artist...??

No helpful info last night, consensus seems to be player X, not drafted to the O this year is thinking of going to one of the "outlaw leagues" as he isn't getting a look in our version of tier 2 JR either. I posted on a really nasty local hockey board also:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/485659/thre...9488226/CJEHL+-

Comments are not favourable. If you are coming to Ontario to skate for these guys try to have a JR A team look at you at same time, that would allow you to self evaluate your skill level and compare your potential teamates in the 'renegade' league against JR A (tier 2) players.

Off topic, who is Modsquad running that board-a member here?

Thought I would post Brads comments here as a few members emailed to see if I had any more info on this league.

CJEHL IS A SCAM!!!

TO those who are concerned...Here's my story, I hope it can shed some light for those of you seeking answers:

My name is Brad Ouldhouse, and in August of 07 I was hired as a head coach for a team in the CJEHL. Being my first JR. A coaching gig, I thought I landed the biggest job of all; an American Head Coach in Canada. I thought it was a dream come true, but as the next two months progressed, the pieces didn't fit, and I began to doubt my belief in the CJEHL, and eventually backed out.

First, I was told I was the only American Head Coach, which turned out to be false; not one of us coaches were Canadian accept for Randy Gumbley and his brother in-law Steve, whom I met in person in Toronto.

Second, there were things I needed at my disposal to get hte team up and running; things like logos, contacts, information, etc., and never got the needed resources. At first, I wrote this off as "growing pains" of a new league. Randy always had an answer for everything.

When it began to sink in that this was not a ligitamet league, I had flown to Toronto to hold a tryout for my team. I was promised ice time and about 45 kids to look at in addition to any americans I brought with me. I got to the Powerade Centre in Brampton, there was no ice time booked, no kids waiting to tryout, nothing. I was shocked. Eventally that trip, Randy handed me a contract that stated I would not get paid unless I recruited all 25 kids into this Walton Gates Academy, some non existant school. At that point, I decided to do my research even further. I called other coaches in the league who had backed out before I was ever hired and who told me to get out; this things bad.

So, in short, this CJ is bull-s#$t, and any player/parent involved needs to contact me immediatly, as we are gathering folks effected by this for legal action.

In the aftermath of all this, I recieved an offer from a different organization all together, USA Hockey sanctioned team, and have two players that were directly effected by this. Thanks for reading and hope this helps. Randy or Vic, if you read this, the thunder is coming down on you, and hell comes with it. Your passport has already been revoked, and Im sure that the beatiful house you have there in Toronto will need to be sold to cover all those court fees and settlements you'll have while your asses rot in jail!!

After a recent showcase, I have been offered a spot on a team in the CJEHL(Canadian Junior Elite Hockey League).

I personally have never heard of this, living in the southwest U.S. so I was hoping some of you guys would have some opinions on the league to help me out. Apparently it is Tier 1 Jr. A, and after going to their website, and speaking to the coach for a lengthy time, it seems pretty promising. Also, their "graduates" aren't too shabby.

Thanks for any help :)

If its not sanctioned, stay away. Hockey Canada is NOT very nice in regards to players who played in the non-sanctioned Junior A system, who then want to play for the sanctioned Junior A system.

Sorry to go off topic here, but the AJHL in the states, Atlantic Jr. Hockey League, what's that like? I had a spot there this year but it wasn't advisable for me to miss a year of school to play hockey that I had to pay for.

I'm not terribly familiar with the AJHL, but if you're looking to play Junior in that general region, I would probably recommend the EJ. I was favoring that route over the OP before I got hurt, and I've got a few buddies who play/have played in the Eastern League and have heard no complaints.

*edit* - poor choice of words.

I'm glad someone brought this topic up again.

2 days ago I woke up to a phone call to a police officer in Toronto asking me if I was scammed by this Gumbley guy from this league because my name was on the "scouting list"

Just goes to show you that even if it looks like a legit league, you've gotta do your homework on it!

About the AJ...its a very good scouting area, so some kids have gotten picked up out of it from what I know. I don't follow it too much. The EJ is the way to go if you want to play the best Junior hockey in that area though. I almost went this year but decided to stay home and finish up high school since I'm an early grad.

EJ is def. a higher level of hockey than AJ, but AJ is also a good league. Alot of people move from the AJ to the EJ, but as an example I was looking at the BC roster this weekend and a kid came right from an AJ team. EJ is a sends alot of kids to Hockey East, ECAC, and and NESCAC (D3) than anything else.
