Local Hockey Shops in Buffalo Area

Recommended Posts

I'm making a trip down to Buffalo this weekend and I was wondering if anyone knows any good hockey shops in the Buffalo area.

Probably the best, and one with best selection is Great Skate. The Amherst Pepsi Center has a decent shop inside, and is close to Great Skate. Also on your side of the border, Cupolo's on Clifton Hill is pretty good as well. Im sure if im missing any, LkptTiger will chime in.

Cobra is right, I don't consider a trip to Buffalo complete without a trip to Great Skate, the pro shop at the pepsi center and then a quick trip to Cupolo's.

Concur with the rest of the group. Great Skate is OK with online orders, but their people at the store are only good at the register...other than that freakin' useless. When I go there, I pick up the catalog, then tell everyone there I'm just looking....grab what I need and checkout fast. Personally I would hesitate to buy skates there if I didn't know EXACTLY what I was looking for.

If you had time to travel to Rochester (little over 1 hour), there is a HockeyWorld (Perani's) there. Those guys are great at service. The only other place...probably too far away (2.5 hours)...with excellent service is McKie's in Syracuse. I would say that central-west NY has about 2-3 excellent choices for equipment and service. The only other worth mentioning is Kemps, but in Albany would be way too far to go with the other choices available.

My sister bought Vector 6.0's there... The guy who waited on her told her "they don't bake those skates". Of course, the tag on the skate begs to differ.

They didn't even teach her how to use the lace locks. <_<

They are very poor, except for one or two guys, as mentioned. I bought a new pair of Microns from them several years ago, and I could not have a worse opinion of how they did at that. These skates were way wrong for me.

I buy some stuff there when I am in a hurry. Otherwise, the pro shop at Pepsi is good, Sorrentinos does good sharpenings. Pretty much what the guys above said.

Thanks for the replies. What are some good places to eat near Great Skate/Pepsi center? Looking for some good wings.

You forgot the Reid brothers' store right over the Peace Bridge in Ft. Erie. Excellent selection (especially protective - gloves, pants, etc.). GREAT sharpenings, too; my dad used to take the 60 minute drive up there two or three times a week just to get my skates done (before he got kicked out of the house...and I found a little mom-and-pop place in Amherst called 'The Skaters' Edge'). The staff there is really pretty knowledgable and helpful.

Cupolo's isn't bad, though some of the staff is pretty dim. Personally, if I'm in the Falls and decide I wanna swing by a shop, I'll take the extra drive and head-over the border at Buffalo to get to Reids.

As far as area wings are concerned: A few weeks ago, I would have suggested Mark's Pizzaria (right down the road from Great Skate...Sheridan/Boulevard intersection), but that place was closed down as of 4/1 (I nearly cried...then I remembered I only had month or so before moving out of the dorms, so I toughed-it-out). Duff's is good, as is Buffalo Wild Wings.
