godiogo 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2007 If you live outside the U.S. or Canada and have ordered equipment online, odds are you've paid import duties on your gear. I recently purchased US$55 dollars worth of stuff from Inline Warehouse (plus shipping), only to pay an additional US$60 in import duties because I live in Brazil. Anyone else have the same problem? Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2007 In Ireland (and the UK too I believe, although the % may be slightly different), there is about 18% VAT added to imported goods, which is why I always send stuff home to family marked "returning goods left on vacation"with a $0 value.Send it registered mail so I know it gets there, but they are not hit with a bill at the end
Alias81 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2007 17.5% and don't I know about it :( Can't wait to get back, no offense to the British, for the first time I'm restricted to buying off the net without really seeing a product or buying at hockeyshops with with limited knowledge at well over double N.A prices. Hidious 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2007 Canada has import duties too. Everything from the states with a value price of more than 35$ or not marked as a gift (i'm not sure that the exact rule) has duty fees. I don't know the % tho, i usually pay CND 20$ for 60$ to 100$ of stuff.
biff44 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2007 Wow, that is kind of a rip-off!I do not understand why there is import duty going from US to Canada. I thought there was a "free" trade agreement in place! Why is there ANY duty at all?
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 None in Australia anymore, upon the US and Aus signing the free trade agreement all import taxes from the US are waived at port.
biff44 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Yeah, exactly! What good is a free trade agreement if you have to keep paying import duties!!!
