new skates

Recommended Posts

im really needing to buy new skates and am looking to spend around 300 at most. cheaper is better. i want skates that will hold up a season or 2. weight is not a big deal to me but comfort and durability are. im going towards bauer because i loved my supreme 6000's and would kill for a pair of 8090's. but has anyone used the Nike Bauer Vapor XXV or the xxii's for 200. how much of a difference is there between the 2? all suggestions welcome.

I'd look for closeout prices on top of the line stuff from a year or two ago as my best bet.

Finding your size might be tough, but back when XX's went on clearence I scooped up two pair for less than what your wanting to spend.

Maybe try the Synergy 800's. You get a composite boot which is light in weight, and the heel is pretty comfortable. You're looking at the 229-299 range depending on where you get them.

Nah, he just finds any opportunity to blast NBH skates.

For some reason the Vapor XXs created a bit of a stigma when it came to durability.

I saw the new XXV's on sale at Westwood Sports in Bloomington,MN for a decent price..Maybe a hair under $300. $289 I believe?? I tried on the new Vapor XXXXs today and they fit nice with 9.5EE on my left foot, but a little too much wiggle in my right foot. They fit better in the toe area than the Vapor XXXs ever did for me. Perhaps it is because of the different toe cap.

With the XXXXs now on the market, I would assume that the XXXs will eventually go on sale (for as low as $300 US or Cdn I don't know). It might be worth checking out.

I saw them at $399 today, but Graf 301s were going for $169 in sr sizes.

ya i loved how the easton 800's felt on my feet but the guy told me they had more returns on that skate than most others for breaking down early so that scarred me a bit. ive seen the XXX's for 350 somewere aswell. to these last longer? thanks for the responses everyone.

You might want to try on the Easton 800c. If they're anywhere near as comfortable as the 1200s, might be what you're looking for. In your budget as well...

Philbrick's has the XXX for $357...$347 for a first time Philbrick's customer.

Vapors are not exactly known for being durable. Performance wise they are great, but then again not that durable. The players I know who wears them, gets half a season out of them at most. Hope this helps.

ya i did try them on and loved the feel. the guy told me that they were the most returned skate though because of durability issues

I have had mine since Xmas and no problems. just some cuts on the holder and carbon on the back. my skating style somehow gets the back of the skate when im tripped, therefore cutting the back. anyhoo.. get the eastons. you are going to be satisfied

I've found my XIXs are great for durability. The XXV is replacing the XIX so I'm guessing durability level will be somewhat close. Unless the new rib pattern is less durable.

I felt like the 70s and Vapors had an entire different fit. Might want to try on.

I know most people have problems with Vapors durability, but I've been skating in my XX's since early august playing D2 college hockey.

Maybe its that I'm a smaller player, I only weight 145 or 150 on a good day, and that contributes to my skates not breaking down as quick, but I think I can probobly make it to this August since I won't be skating as much this summer.

Just some input, perhaps if you weigh less you can get some more life out of Vapor XXX should you choose to buy them. On the other hand, my buddy who is 200 pounds plus got a season out of his XXX's before he junked them for RBK's.
