Dean Hancock Lawsuit

Recommended Posts

Authorities said the 29-year pitcher had a blood content of nearly twice the legal limit for alcohol in his system when he crashed into the back of the tow truck. He was also speeding, using a cell phone and wasn't wearing a seat belt, Police Chief Joe Mokwa said after the accident. Marijuana also was found in the SUV.

I wonder if the Cardinals (or their insurance) are trying to deny paying the remainder of his contract due to negligence. That's seems to be the only logical reason why they would file such an obviously frivolous lawsuit. Although it's equally as obvious that they're hoping the other parties don't want to put the time and money into defending themselves and, thus, would settle.

I agree, absolutely disgusting. I realize that as family it would be difficult to accept, but the sad truth is Hancock acted like an idiot that night and no one else is to blame.

So, he was drunk, speeding, no seat belt, on the cell phone with weed in the car.....and it's everyone elses fault.

He is suing the guy who's car was stalled on the highway for negligence, as he should have kept his car in better condition, even though the police say the stalling was a result of being spun out after another car cut him off?

His son was fine, it was the guy with the broke down car who was negligent.

Idiocy must be genetic

Dean, why don't you sue the broad Josh was on the phone with while you're at it?

I hope counter-suits render this asshole penniless.

What's so disgusting about it? Families of victims sue bars and bartenders all the time. And truth is, they are liable if they served an openly drunk person, that's why it's illegal.

If the lawsuit had stopped at suing the bar for not shutting him down, maybe the suit is justified. However, even though it's possible the bar continually served him, he didn't have to stop into the bar, he didn't have to accept one drink, he didn't have to accept two drinks, nor did he have to accept any drinks. The truth is people need to be accountable for their actions.

What's so wearying about lawsuits like this is the information that has leaked suggests they'd have a snowballs chance in Hades of winning against the stalled vehicle or tow truck, yet they're still willing to bring a suit -- at taxpayer expense. What does that tell you? They have no intention of going to court, where they would surely lose; instead, they want to intimidate the defendants (or their insurance) into settling for less money.

Further, one article suggests they aren't through suing. So who else can they sue? Budweiser for making beer? The farmers for growing barley and hops? The trucking companies for bringing beer to the restaurant? The construction company for building the restaurant? The city for making the roads? Anyone else we've forgotten?

Again, no one forced him to drink alcohol. He chose to do that and, thankfully, didn't injure anyone else. I said it earlier, but I wouldn't be surprised if word leaks out that there wasn't going to be an "inheritance" from his contract, because crashing while driving drunk might be a breach of some of its terms. If that turns out to be the case, then the suit is surely a money grab by his survivors.

He ran himself into the back of a flat-bed tow-truck. The rear-end of the truck went right through Hancock's windshield. They're calling the death "immediate" - I assume he was decapitated.

Wow...this is an all time low for U.S. law.

His parents should be sued for having an idiot for a child.

I've heard that it was into his chest & crushed his heart or something like that...a radio station (y98) in town caught some video with a parking lot security camera...

I'm going to sue Dean Hancock for sueing everybody, which produced stories to be put up on the web, making my blood pressure rise whilst I was reading said lawsuits, which may kill me later on. And while he's at it, why doesn't he sue his wife for giving birth to the son? And sueing the Cardinals' and the Cubs' Organizations for ending the game so soon, therefore allowing for him to stay at the bar and get drunk so much? God our society is F'ed up.
