From vapor xxx to one90 skates

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I tried one90'S for the first time last night, I got a used pair that had white tuuk lightspeed 280 holders with normal ls2 on them instead of 272 clear version.

Coming from vapor xxx with the same holders/steel however, I felt akward hard to describe, my balance was different. Can anyone tell me what the reason for this is? Maybe I just have to get used to the skates.

Thanks for your help

different pitch of the boot!

The one90´s are pitched negative (on your heels), while the XXX has a positive pitch (on your toes)..

A heel lift would solv your problem.

The default pitch with retail holders:

NBH One90: 15/32nds-15/32nds.....that would be a neutral pitch.

NBH Vapor XXX: 16/32nds 16/32nds....that would also be a neutral pitch.

Both the One90 boot and the Vapor XXX/XXXX boot do not feel like a forward pitch...I am a big fan of the boot because I have a lot more control when I am on my heels. Bauers have always put a skater back on your heels.

just a question if the one90 skates came with the ls2p's in a 272. Do you have to go to a 280 in a ls2 to fit on the boot or can you go with a 272 ls2?

you should got with the 272. the 280 MAY be possible, but the 272 is a sure thing. The size/location of the mounting points of a 272 LS2P are the same as a 272 LS2. te difference is in the length of the steel.

Hi MLSman, would you recommend heel lifts? You seem not to need them personnally but I have read many people put them in on one90 skates. Is this a case of personnal preference, skating style, ? Is I put a 3mm lift how will the pitch be affected? What should I do to get to 16/32 or a neutral pitch? Doesn't having a forward pitch put you on the front of your feet. Is this not better for skating? thanks :)

No, the 280 LS2 lines up with the 272 LS2P. Its not like going from a Custom+ to a LS2. They not only lengthened the steel, but the holder as well and just kept the the numbers the same to coordinate with the correct size boot.

mm numbers line up to boots. they always have and always will line up to boots in the same way. Regardless of skate model, manufacturer, or year made, then umbers will always line up to the same size boot. If your boot currently has a 272 on it, and you want to guarantee that the new holder will fit, you better damn well put another 272 on there.

As I noted, you can sometimes get away with going one size larger holder, but there's no guarantee that it will work. this was very common with players oversizing their custom+ holders, which is why Bauer released the lightspeed holder (longer length of steel for the same mm size holder/same size boot.

Damnlocust have you actually done a One90 to LS2 conversion? My 7C's going from 263 LS2P's to LS2's required drilling.

mine one90s did also. I used the same size LS2(288)...worked out just fine...we didn't have anything bigger in stock anyways, so even had I known that you should use a larger size, I still probably would have ended up using the 288. From what I recall, I think a couple of the previous holes lined up on the new holder.

i didnt say that it didnt need a re-drill, just that the proper size holder would be to use the same one. the rivet pattern of the LS2P doesn't match up to the LS2.

(for the record: i dont work in a shop, i just spend far too much time on here.)

I also noticed a difference going from my old grafs to the one90's. I got used to it after awhile but going back and forth from ice to inline always kept me having to adjust each time I skated on ice. A few weeks ago I changed the stock insoles of the one90's to the Superfeet insoles and that gave me more forward lean to where I feel more comfortable.

You should never really change the size of the holder from its stock size, a bigger holder still has the same radius, and will do nothing more than screw up the balance points intended between the boot, your foot, and the holder.
