sure grip question

does anyone on this board still use this style chassis? Are there any other chassis like this set up out there. I have tried the hilo and other versions, sprung, vibe, and vibe 2 but i miss my my sure grip.

Yeah, my brother and I have suregrips on our skates and we love them. My brother's got the three wheel frame on some CCM Tacks and they are by far the best skates he's owned. I'm sure you know this already, but you can still get them on hockeymonkey.com in the chassis section relatively cheaply.

Yeah I love Sure Grip, is the company even still around? Still use them religiously though. I even had my ice skates profiled to match them. Here are mine... I put em on a pair of 652 supertacks with Graf RMS screws and couldnt be happier.

I still have my pair of Suregrips, which just happen to have the same exact 76mm wheel positions as the new large Sprung. Do you think they copied me?

Suregrip is in LA and still cranking out skates and supplies of all kinds. I'm pretty sure the wife of the original owner still runs it. Very nice old company.

They need to make some Mg chassis. Those would be sick! I love the suregrip

Are they stillproducing framesor is that an old website?

They may not be. I couldnt find the frame I got anywhere except ebay. And even then, I had to buy a real old pair of complete skates - boot and all, only to rip it apart for just the frame. Suregrip's been around since the 70s I think, and still produce quads, but maybe not the hockey so much anymore.

Sure-Grip has actually been making skates since 1936.

Guys, I thought I would mention this for those who might be looking for a Sure-Grip chassis. Yes, Hockey Monkey has the H-400 chassis for $100.00 and the H-505 for $110.00 but go to the Hockey World web page. If you were a size 8 or 8 1/2 you can get CCM 842 Tacks or 755's with a Sure-Grip H-400 chassis, wheels and bearings for less than $100.00. Thats a heck of a deal. I wear a 10 or I would buy another pair for the boot, wheels and bearings. I paid around $400.00 dollars for my 755's over 10 years ago and they are a heck of a skate. Why buy the chassis for more than you can buy the whole skate with the same chassis and it is the same chassis. I have 2 Sure-Grip chassis, one H-400 on my CCM 755's and one H-405 after market and they are exactly the same just a different number and logos. Kind of like the Red Star E-Frame and the Sherwood E-Frame. Same chassis, different logos, color, ect.

Check it out.

does anyone have any pics of successful suregrip chassis mounts to a modern boot with a composite outsole? i've only seen them mounted to older boots with PVC outsoles. i had a SG405 (i think) that a friend gave me and i took it to the LHS and the footprint of the soleplates was too wide for the boots with composite outsoles. they might have fit with some really angled rivets, but i wasn't going to take the chance on ruining the boot.

maybe its a better fit on the bigger boots, but i had a small chassis looking to put it on a size 7.5-8 boot.

I picked up a SG 405 for $1 from HG a year ago. I gave it away.

Well that's what I initially set out to do. And it did work, the chassis mounted fine (at least with the CCMs I use). The problem I had with the composite/thin plastic outsole was the total thickness in the heel region. I got some newer Supertacks with the thin sole, but that changed the forward angle that I was used to, to the point that I hated it (I know I'm picky). So I just bought the previous years 652s that used the thicker PVC on the heel and all was well. I also had some Blue Max's laying around so I had some SGs mounted to those and they have a composite outsole. Don't use them a lot but they are doing fine.

The mount plates on my large SGs are so flat in front that they need a shim in front so the boot toe doesn't have to be totally flattened. Mounted on the Missions, they had a big dollop of hot glue under each toe to turn them up a little. They were on Mission 12s (10.5 Canadian at the time), and made to fit up to a 13 Canadian, so that's probably why.

The H200/205 chassis was completely flat. The 300/305, 400/405, 505 all had a decent mount plate on it with some curve in it, but, not enough.

Yeah the H305 was the same, the mount plate for the forefoot had a nice curve to it, but ironically the heel plate was totally flat and parallel to the bottom of the frame, which made no sense at all.
