But they're the same guy... :)

Nope, Bob is the evil twin! ;)

No wonder he's the one who posts on GSBB!

Did they make you send in your cheque yet?

Is anyone in Canada sending No Icing their runners ? I'm wondering if it is still cost- and time-effective when you go across the border, and how long it takes to get your runners back after they leave your house. With two young kids in the house, the hour-long round trip for a sharpening is getting hard to fit in to my schedule.

I'm coming from Vapor XXX with profile/radius done by Bob at No-icing, and will say he has done a great job. My question is I just picked up a pair of Graf 703's that come stock with 11' radius and enough forward lean to leave the same.

I have only skated a quick lap on the ice so far right after purchasing skates to check sizing. On my XXX I had the steel set with a duel radius with the front being 7' and rear being 13' (I think). Felt pretty good, but thinking of lowering the rear radius to 11' for a little more agility.

I was wondering what most guys that have had Bob or others do custom radius', what are you guys using and happy with.

my specs.

33yrs

6'0 tall

175-180 lbs

forward

263mm steel

1/2 inch hallow/sharpening

Another satisfied customer - for me it is just easier to mail in the runners then hope the pro shop is open at the time of my games or kill an hour between driving to and from the local shop + whatever wait time there to get them sharpened. Bob has also worked with me to fine to the hollow - everything he has done has been explained and has made a difference in my skating.

Your best bet is to find someone good in Canada. There are soooo many good sharpeners there. Ask around. It has to be more cost effective to do it local if you can find a good one. Shipping costs have really gone up.

Bob rocks! My blades are perfect every time!

I skate on 272's, 1" hollow and 9' radius. I have Graf skates and I just started using the Step Steel over the stock.

"jimmy",

I guess you might be the one to ask! What have you been seeing a lot of players happy with based on what I previously posted? I'm looking for a little quicker turns, but dont want to give up much in speed, stability.

If you want quicker turns and don't plan on doing it with improved skating technique then you've got two choices, a deeper hollow or a shorter radius, the trade off will be speed.

I sent my steel to No Icing a few months ago and had them profiled. Only thing is, its kind of expensive, and it adds up ($25 a pop). I have a 10 foot radius with a medium toe down profile on my One90s. Would installing a heel lift eliminate the need for profiling? How much would it cost? I'm new to ice hockey, still trying to figure out all the profiling/radius/hollow stuff.

Ditto. Happy customer for about a year now. Extra cost of shipping is well offset by savings in time and driving. The quality and consistency of work is hard to match.

IMHO - it is not expensive. You don't get the blades profiled every time you get them sharpened. I get a refresh on the profile and radius every 6 months or so. Anyone who changes the profile or radius is going to charge you above and beyond a standard sharpen for that extra time and effort.

The standard sharpen is cheaper than my local rink and far far far better quality. I send 4-5 sets of blades per time - about $12 total to and from shipping - so the average with shipping is less than a buck more per set than my LHS. I know it sounds strange to some of you to mail out blades - but in certain areas of the country finding skilled sharpeners is like trying to find Jimmy Hoffa.

Thumbs up for No Icing.

Ok, I was under the impression that they had to be profiled/radiused every time. I sent two sets and that lasted me through the season (don't get to play a lot).
