No. I remember reading an article about a team moving to Vegas not too long ago and its main argument was that it'll never work because the fan base is all tourists. A team needs a steady, local fan base who can be season ticket owners, not just a group of guys who fly in for the weekend.

Many of the jobs in vegas are service jobs as well and those generally don't provide enough income to pay for season tickets. There are a lot of people who have second homes or condos in Vegas but they obviously aren't there all year long. If a team does move there, they will have to be subsidized by the hotel chains and casinos via luxury boxes and tickets given to high rollers.

With ticket prices the way they are in some cities, you could say that's already a working sales pitch for a handful of teams.

Doubtful for the reasons mentioned already, but also take a look at their ECHL team. The team does "OK" for a AA team, but there are logistical problems - the Vegas team had something like a 90% home winning percentage because visiting teams just couldn't keep themselves out of the casinos and bars. Imagine bringing in teams 40+ times a year with guys who make $400,000+, many of whom already have gambling and drinking "predispositions".

On top of that, even if the Vegas local crowd could afford the tickets, many of them work entertainer's hours. Unless you're starting games at midnight, it'd be tough to have many people in the seats.

I am a native of Las Vegas so maybe I can help clear things up. The service people wouldn't be targeted for season tickets they would be targeted for nightly tickets. The season tickets would be aimed at the many professionals (lawyers, doctors, execs) like most cities. One problem with attendance from locals is that it is a 24 hour town with more people (than most cities)working during game time.

Las Vegas has alot of transiant people who already have an allegance to other teams. We would have to convince them to become Vegas fans instead of Wings/Rangers/etc fans and that is not easy to do.

There is a conflict between betting and any college or pro team that would be here. They would have to make it so that the casinos could not accept bets on the team (like with UNLV).

Bruckheimer (sp) is thought to want to bring a team here because of his connections with one of the casino owners here who are friends of his. He has the money and loves and plays hockey (he has a personal tourney here every year called the Bad Boys tournament).

I think we would draw in more fans from opposing teams than most games because it would be a "party" trip for them.

If we did get a NHL team (our mayor has been pushing hard for any pro team) it would have to be a transplanted team. The league can't handle another team. That is why the Pens were courting Vegas. We would need to build a new arena but one is suppose to be in the works.

Every year the Kings vs Avs game sells out. What the league should do to test the waters is have a few regular season games here and maybe even try to get the All Star game.
