Shipping Costs to Canada

Recommended Posts

I live in canada and was wondering if it is worth ordering off the internet and getting it shipped to canada? Usually at my LHS everything is extremely overpriced with stealths going for $320 cnd.

Edited:

Sorry.. This seems like kind of a dumb question.

If the cost of the item locally is more than what it costs for another shop to ship it then I don't understand why you wouldn't just go with the non-local shop.

If you want to support your local hockey shop, that is one thing. But if your LHS is gouging the hell out of prices, then you have to do what you have to do.

You spelled Canada wrong.. <_<

Another way you can do it is go to a search engine like google and type in the following..

"shipping to Canada" site:www.modsquadhockey.com

If you're saving a good amount of money it's definitely worth it. Just make sure that you know exactly what sizes, patterns, flexes etc. you need before you order. If you have to return anything it's going to end up costing more than going to your local to begin with.

In my opinion and experience it is not worth it to ship items from any of the internet websites, such as hockey monkey, hockey giant, greatskate, etc, if it is a new item and not on any discount or clearence. Reason being a minimum of $25 to 40 usd for shipping, a 30% customs charge(living in ontario). It works out to almost the same, u might just save about $5 but will have to wait a week or more for the item to reach your doorstep vs. paying for it and recieving it that same day at your LHS. It would be good if u knew someone in the states who could bring it for you and avoid the shipping and customs/duties, but then again u have to depend on them quite a bit and work around their schedule.

When I've ordered from the web sites I've found it is just slightly cheaper or on par with my LHS. Frankly for me to buy something on line to make it worth while it has to be on clearance or at least 20 to 30 per cent off in price to make it worth my while. I live in Ontario just north west of Toronto. I am just as far ahead to buy it here and then I can even check out what I'm getting as well. Another problem is they won't ship Easton or Nike/Bauer stuff across the border anymore so I may as well buy them here in Canada. If Mission stops allowing cross border shipments that makes it even less attractive to shop on line. So much for your free trade agreement because it looks to me like there is still a lot of protectionism on both sides of the 49th parallel.

The only time I'll order from the states is if it is something completely impossible to get, and that says alot as I live in Vancouver with amazing LHS's. Other than that it's not really worth it, I got tacked on like $50 extra after my shafts were delivered from Hockey Monkey (in this case, it was worth it, gotta love those flyweights!)

Seems like everything in Canada is more expensive. I've been in Ottawa for 4 days now and holy crap the prices are outrageous on everything up here. Last nite paid $7.50 for a pac of chicken legs that I would pay $1.40 for in the states. Do you Canadiens buy your food from the states online too? How about gasoline as well, that's like about $4 a gallon. We won't even discuss beer. I can get that at beermonkey.com for waaaaay less. :)

it sucks bad for canadian shops because back in the day when the candian dollar was weaker then the U.S dollar americans would buy all stuff up in Canada because there dollar was so strong, but now since the American Dollar(sorry) is so weak it makes more sense for a Canadian to buy stuff in the states or online just because U.S dealers get a different pricing sheet compared to Canadian shops, so yes Canadian shops are more expensive just because we are paying more for the stuff then the U.S dealers are even though it comes from the same place and most main manufacturers have holding units in both the states and canada so realistically its not the LHS screwing over the customer its the manufacturer screwing the LHS just on the basis that its the same thing yet the U.S dealers are paying way less then the Canadian dealers are.

Granted both NBH and other companies have tried to prevent cross border shipping on there product it stills happens because a few shops will just turn the other way when a person from Canada is ordering a pair of skates from the states. This has caused a few shops in canada like small ones not big ones like Forzani to input fitting fees because the staff is getting basically toyed with giving valuable information of the skates to a person just going to buy it online.

Now as far as shipping goes to keep on topic alot of shipping I found is alot more even for personal stuff, honestly best bet is to literally drive to buffalo or whatever state is on your border spend a night there and take it back the next day.

Remember too, that the economic market is about 10 times smaller when compared to the States (i.e. population), hence we Canadians pay the price.
