Gloves: Got XV, but too big...

Recommended Posts

I bought a pair of 15" Vapor XV gloves since it has some very insignificant blemishes and was marked down by $20 CAD at my LHS. However, when I play with it at home, they do feel a little too big. I came from a pair of Bauer Supreme HG-5000 from like 6 years ago (I haven't played in 5 years and just starting to pick up again). The old pairs were way oversize and my fingers just can't really move well in those gloves. I am planning to bring the gloves back to my LHS and exchange for a better fitting pair. I might just get the 14" Vapor XV (but it sucks, I'd have to pay 20 bucks extra for the same thing). I've also tried and am thinking about exchanging for the following similarly priced pairs:

1.) TPS R8 response lite (PRO STOCK)

2.) RBK 5K

The TPS has a very soft palm yet they feel a little bit bulky. The 5k...I dunno, they feel very normal...not too bad, not too good either.

I kinda like the One70 as well but they are a bit pricier. I also love the RBK 9k very much. However, they are a bit expensive. If I am just going to be playing in pick-up leagues, do you guys think it would be a waste of $$ to get something like the 9K's (they are actually about 20 bucks more than the One70 and cheaper than 8K's)?

Anyways, I am just looking for some opinion from you guys since I have been out of the hockey world for a long time. Thank you.

If it feels too big and you think it's too big, then it's probably too big. It's best to spend the extra $20 to be comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. Further down the road you might kick yourself if you decide to keep the 15 inchers.

Either that or return them and buy the gloves you like the best. I'm sure there's not too, too much of a price difference between all of these gloves so go with what feels the best. In the end a few extra dollars goes a long way as far as comfort, performance and peace of mind go.

Thanks for the reply...ya, I think it will keep bugging me if I don't get the right pair. I am somewhat picky with my equipment. And since I have pretty much stopped growing...I think that my equipment will probably last me many many years. Maybe I will take the plunge and go for the 9k hehe I love thoes ones...look good and feel best!!

The 8K ia a very similar glove and fit to the 9K and I find them just as comfortable as almost anything I've tried. Only glove I'm finding fits a bit better is the Bauer Vapor XX or XXX.

TPS R8s over the 5ks for sure (just ordered some R8 lites myself). Have you tried on the NBH 4-roll or Easton 800? The NBH are really nice and light, would've got them but they were to loose for my liking.

the R8s have a bit shorter fingers than the RBKs and the fit is a hair looser. The R8 lite is an amazing glove, probably my favorite as of right now.

Thanks for the responses.

I really like the R8 response lite. But there seems to be so many different models out there...R8 Nylon, R8 leather, R8 pro-return, and HGT. THey all seem to be the same pattern and the only difference I see is the palm. I really like the FFH palm as it feels very soft and grippy.

So right now, I am down to exchanging my XV for:

TPS R8 (not sure which one yet...probably the leather ones)

RBK 8k or 9k

Eagle X6

Do you guys actually know how the Eagle X6 compares to the higher end X70 or X72?

Thanks once again.

A friend of mine has the X6s. The fit is similar to my X70s, but something just felt a bit off about them. The break at the knuckles was a bit uncomfortable for me, but he did cut out the padding that goes above the backhand.

Even with his split fingers vs. my one piece fingers, the X70s won out in my book.

Thanks, but what are supposed to be the difference between them? So X6 is the lower line and X70 is the higher end? How about material of the palm? My friend has a pair of X50 and he absolutely loves them. If the X6 is very similar to the X70, I might just pick up a pair of those over the 9K.

The X6 is cheaper because it is made in China while the X70 is made in Canada. I wouldn't really consider it a lower end line, just a more affordable line.

So the X6 gloves are on par with other Eagle gloves? I plan to keep these gloves I get next for a long long time and I might go oversea, so I plan to probably get something that will last a while.

I'm not going to comment on durability as I've only used X70s and X50s, but from the catalogue, the X70 and X6 seem to share simliar features (plastic inserts, split fingers, angled backroll, 3 piece side shell, portofino shell). On paper the performance looks on par.

I wonder if the palm on the X6 will be as soft and comfy as the X50 (as I have only tried this pair that my friend got years ago). I am seriously considering it over the RBK 9K right now since everyone talks about how good Eagle is!

Ya, I think that the R8 is very comfortable too. Too bad my LHS doesn't carry the Perry pro-stock R8. Those look really good and I really only want a pair of black gloves.
