bauer 8000 helmet

Recommended Posts

Cooper was defintely a name they should have kept around. The Cooper line had some of the best equipment for quite a while. I still own a Cooper helmet that is identical to the Bauer 4000 lid. I owned two different pairs of Cooper skates until I grew out of them. My favorite pair of Cooper skates had a molded tongue that was by far the most protective and comfortable tongue I ever had in a pair of skates. I will tip one to my old Cooper skates, may they rest in peace. Here's to the good ole' days.

I saw a demo or mockup about 4 months ago I guess. I really dont think it looks that bad. Plus, like chadd and kosy said, its the one piece of equipment you dont have to look at, it just sits there and does its job. Which is a very important job if you ask me.

We have a "prototype", a very recent one that is exactly the same as the normal release one's but it's not approved, so it cannot be sold or worn on the rink.

It's adjustability is AWESOME, it locks to your head so well, it's comfortable, and has good ventilation. I actually think it looks good, especially with a cage or visor, and it's really easy to adjust. I've heard only good comments on it.

i'll definitely be buying one when we gettem in. Sure, it's pricy, but think about it, when you're spending $200 on a stick, 400-600$ on skates, why not spend a good amount to protect your head?

My friend's little bro got one today. $100. How much were the 5000s when they first came out? I want to say $90ish. The more I think about it, the more I think I'm going to get one, thats if I can get one to fit my huge ass head.

I tried it on today. Not bad but it just didn't fit my head right. I didn't get the adjustments down fully though, I'll give it another shot.

I felt the same way. It fit "ok", but the side adjustments (the parts that are supposed to secure the helmet on the sides) never touched my head no matter if they were tightened all the way or loosened all the way. It just never felt tight on my head. Even in a small... I ended up getting a 5000SE (in silver lol) to alternate with my Carbster.

no he means the SE 5000. It looks like a dull silver in all the pics that i've seen

Bauer 5000 SE

It's metallic, but not chrome by any means. It's the same silver color that gatorade comes in now (best example I could think of). Just like silver metallic paint, but it's made into the plastic. I guess you would call it dull

I'm sure this has been said but i didn't read the whole post. Although I think that this helmet probably offers a lot of protection I think that it is one of the ugliest helmets i've seen, with the exception of mario's.

after adjustments on the thing, i'd think it could fit just about anyone. hm. And the metallic grey on the 8000 is actually a really cool color.

Let's see how much I remember...

Bauer, Cooper, Tuuk, Daoust, Lange, Micron.

Old-skoolers - am I forgetting anyone?

No, I think that covers it.

In the late 70s, Cooper bought out the original WinnWell brand, but rather than keep that name alive, they dissolved it. WinnWell's helmet became the Cooper SK2000.

The WinnWell brand was licensed to Irwin Sports (a division of Irwin Toy of Canada) along with the Cooper Baseball brand in 1989 or so, when Bauer purchased Cooper Hockey.

Irwin Sports went under in 2001, so WinnWell was dead again, but The Hockey Group recently purchased the name and are supposed to begin manufacturing their own brand of equipment under the WinnWell name.

You forgot Roos - the original KangaRoos skates all leather (very heavy) with clear TUUK Holders...broke like crazy.

They bought them, put the Cooper name on them and then killed the brand.

Sad...these would have/could have been the Graf of today.

If you want one, spray paint your helmet. The team was given them after they won the championship this year.

In Finland the leading scorers helmets were just white, spray painted gold.
