Scott Niedermeyer thinking of retiring

Wow. Great piece of trivia...The only player in hockey history to win:

A Stanley Cup

A Memorial Cup

A World Jr. Gold

A Men's World Gold

An Olympic Gold &

A World Cup of Hockey Title

He's only 33...and, realistically has 4-5 really really solid years left in him...if he chooses to keep playing.

I guess Burke is right. He's earned the right to walk away on top.

It's a shame though. Great player.

I understand walking away on top, but if he walks away in 10 years, he'll still have all that stuff on his resume, potentially more.

He's relatively young and has had a pretty healthy career. If he had a problem with knees or concussions, then I'd understand.

I mentioned this in a rumour thread somewhere around here and it's hard to imagine someone retiring when they're going to be "only" 34 in a month, but if anyone's earned it he has. Short of a Hart there's not much else he can do. That said though, there's no real reason to think they can't be right there in the Finals again next season either, but he wouldn't have another Conn Smythe to go out with.

I thought he had some issues with Concussions.

The comments he made to Stevens are pretty bizarre, comes off not caring much, but he's had a hell of a career.

Good for him then, he's accomplished everything he wants and is still healthy! Time to spend time at home with the kids, if that's what he wants.

Scott? What did he say? I'm not up on my Devils rumors.

'When I was playing with him, he never seemed, in my opinion, like he was planning on playing that long - or as long as I did,'' Stevens, who played 22 NHL seasons, told CP on Tuesday. ''I kept saying to him, 'You'll have no trouble surpassing my amount of games and this and that.' And he'd say, 'Oh no, you won't see me doing that.' But there's no question the guy can play as long as he wants.''

I can't blame him if he does, because he's now seriously done everything after fulfilling the backyard hockey dream of winning the cup with your brother. He probably figures that even if he wins another cup, it'll never feel as good as this one, even if its next year because this was Robs first ever cup. If he and Selanne leave, thats a huge blow to the Ducks though. They can only hope he makes the decision prior to July 1
