roller hockey dying

Recommended Posts

if you want rollerhockey then come to B.C cause it's as strong as ever! i think we have the only rinks which stays rollerhockey all year round (Sportsplex) in canada as well.

Not the only one in Canada. There's an all year round roller floor in Langford/Victoria, B.C. too.

Brea closed down a couple years ago and what ever happened at Inline sports Center in Corona? (I moved away almost a year ago.)

Last I heard it is gone. If you remember the owners I think Dave and Tim(for sure) it was too much for them.

But still I moved across the country 2 years ago but they are closed now.

skooled - I play in canberra, but i come down to melb for the silver cup

the puckhandlers rink is by far the best rink in aus!

I do agree with PH being the best Aus rink at the moment, but your rink in ACT is good too. Sydney used to have a good one, Brisbane sucks, Moe in VIC has a decent rink I am told.

I hear rumours of a new rink in either Sydney or Brisbane. Full glass, Orb court, Gym, Sauna, Physio. Supposedly they are looking for a site, and a Gym operator to rent space.... Spread the word, get the rumour mill in action!!!

I'm not sure......

Acacia ridge here in bris used to have glass, but figure skaters rule the ice in aus, but I don't play Ice, so it doesn't matter.

but yes, PH is australia's premier hockey arena, ice or roller.....

puckhandlers is still perspex i think. and that rink at Moe uses puckhandlers old floor. but your right in saying its possibly the best rink in AUS full stop.

Our rink (ACT) is alright becasue we have the orbcort, only drama is its usually dirty lol

another new rink in sydney ay? sounds good man got anymore info on it? theres usually rumours going around about a new rink somewhere... i started using the indoor hall at my school for some training just for me :P kinda fun having people come and watch lol

why is anaheim shutting down? I love that rink.

well its not shutting down its gonna move, if they can. but as for signing a new lease please tell me its true because i thought the owner wouldnt do it.

When my team registered, they told us they had first right of refusal on a new 7 year lease and the owners finally decided to renew. I have no reason to doubt them. I would guess it is easier for them now that Hockey Monkey is running the pro shop and picking up part of the rent. The story has been the same from all of the people that work there.

All I know is that when I went to Melbourne for the Australian Championship, I had the time of my life...It is some of the best memories I have prior to being married and kids...Good times...I just remember one club called Hell Fire or something like that...

Sadly, no more Karlos.

One less rip off merchant in the system, do you know how many VIC hockey players are still owed money by that guy?

Its funny but, you guys should talk about puckhandlers compared to Ice rinks in Aus as at one point the owner Ross was considering turning it into an ice rink. Sadly but with the government grant going to the supposed "Docklands project" it was never to be.

I wouldn't say roller hockey is dying, IMO it really is a type of fad. Around where I live kids get into it, play for a few months, don't get better and quit. There is a local outdoor rink by my house and you rarely see the same faces. I think that maybe ice hockey takes a lot more dedication/time/effort/money and when you compare alongside of roller hockey, roller hockey looks pretty weak. Like anything it goes through "popularity" and only the diehards will continue to play, which usually isn't many.
