Trooper 8 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 Stick to the basics. Get in the gym and lift. Eat a lot. Stick to anaerobic training for conditioning and short sprint work for speed. You are a beginner, there's no magic formula. Don't major in the minor stuff. Bench, squat, deadlift, etc.
blues_91 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 Does deadlifting even help at all though? I stopped doing it a few weeks ago because I didn't really think it benefited me.

Abbieshockey20 1 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 It depends how young you are, if you're 12 and under it's not good for you to lift weights. Stick to quick feet excercises, along with core stuff, maybe even no weight squats, also the best thing to do for strength at a young age is excercises with just your own body weight (push ups, sit ups, pull ups, dips etc.). Check out the nike training website, not sure if the excercises are up yet but they should be soon.

Maybe I wasn't working hard enough? I don't know.

I feel the SM one of the most worthless and in fact somewhat dangerous pieces of equipment in any gym. It forces the bar in a predetermined path, which in reality is different and unique for each individual. It also takes away the stabilization element of any lift, thereby creating a great imbalance when a movement is done in 3D space, as in actually performing a sports movement.
