Hockey DeVoTee 1 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 My son needs new skates and getting substantial feed back is tough from this 11 soon to be 12 year old. He is currently in Vector 10's 4.5E too narrow in the toe box. Trying Vapor XXXX & One 90's. XXXX seem too wide in the heel and mid foot. The one 90'S hurt his ankle bones mostly on the inside ankle. He loves the fit other than the ankle bones. The Q - how well do the ankle pads punch-out. He didn't have a problem with his Vectors ANY SUGGESTIONS?? Local shop no help/ limited experience. kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Should go away with baking, and yes they punch and that will make a major difference. Only punch if you have to though.

Fredrik 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 I second the ankle packs will form to the shape of he's ankles when baking/breaking in the skates. Remember these new high end skates are pretty stiff when not broken in, even though JR sized...Some moderate preasure points are sometimes part of the break in process as long as they are the right size, fit & width for your sons feet. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Just my 2 cents...

Edge 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 your son is 12 years old...there is no need for him to have such expensive skatesIf they have the money, why shouldn't a parent buy their child the best product available? Arguement has been brought up many times, and if a parent has the money to spend on their kid to get the highest end equipment, then they should. That aside, the one90 is a VERY moldable skate. If regular heating does not solve the problem, which it usually does, then punching would be the next step. I've never punched out a one90, but judging by the moldability, I'm sure it can easily be done. Make sure the pain isn't too serious though because the one90 boot is VERY stiff, so regular break in isn't going to help a whole lot. Has he tried an Easton skate? Like the S-15?
