Heel Slipping in skate

Recommended Posts

Ok so i've had my vapor XXX's for just over a year and it feels as though the heel of the skate has actually stretched causing my heel to slip. They fit absolutely perfect for the first 10 months and this problem has only come up recently. I am looking to probably get new skates in the near future and i am looking at the xxxx's one90's 9k's and i was wondering if i would have similar problems with any of these skates. I have tried wearing them tighter, thicker socks, ect. I know most will say go to the store and try them on but i just want to narrow it down a bit. any suggestions???? thanks BTW MY xxx's are 7.5 EE

I have the XXXs as well and still get a blister now and then on the inside of the heel--mainly because my UA socks are so thin they don't grip that great. They changed the liner on the XXXs to that Hydro-whatever which is slippier than the XXs liner and previous Bauers. It might be the liner is getting worn and loosening up causing your heel to slip. You might want to try maybe a tad thicker sock--I did--I switched to the Easton Synergy sock and it worked.

so awhile ago i tried on some one 90s and it seemed as though my heel would fit and almost lock into the back.. Any truth to this??? BTW when i did try them on they were not my size and were a D so that could influence why it felt like my heel would almost lock in

One90s have a really good heel lock, from what I've heard. Mission skates do to, hence why I'm in Missions (One90's are a tad bit outside of my price range). I've got a pretty narrow heel.

+1 to everything sabre said, I was in the mission's for their heels. But the one 90s are no longer out of the price range, I love 'em.

The heel lock on my One90s is amazing...and my Mission 110 AGs had a huge, deep, wide heel. I'm guessing this year's model has a different fitting heel than last years?

Might be a difference between EE and D widths. I'm in D's.

A couple of things to think about:

1. You mentioned you tried thicker socks, but before you run out and buy new skates, super wikking socks can be quite slippery. Have you tried different materials? (i.e. instead of 100% polyester, try a cool max cotton blend)

2. I have 9k's and find the pump helps lock in the heel because the air bladders hug around you achilles.

Good luck.

I was thinking about this thread as I recently upgraded to an E width on my tacks.

At first, they fit fine - however, unfortunately, while CCM does offer mixed widths (E/A) I got the overall wider skate (E/B). It's fine at first, but as the skates heat up and my ankles get slippier (slippier?) they tend to get sloppy towards the end of the night where I can feel, as I walk back to the lockerroom, my ankle extending within the skate.

What I thought about is lace bit pads. The only one I could find on a quick search was this Bunga product (http://www.bungapads.com/) but I am sure there are others.

HOWEVER, my thought was.... what if you were to wear the lace bit pad? Wouldn't that put your foot farther back into the skate?

Of course, it's a soft gel, so perhaps not. BUT.. they do have a gel ankle sleeve (and varying options - see their site). SO... wouldn't that effectively lock your ankle into the skate more? Just thinking outloud - it could work - not sure.

Thoughts?

I bought a set of the Bunga lace bite sleeves when I was getting lace bite from my last pair of skates, it added thickness to the front of my ankle/foot so it made the fit feel more solid but I wouldn't say it improved the fit/heel lock. This could also be attributed to the fact that the pads cleared up my lace bite so I was no longer thinking about my feet(pain) while I was skating so it felt more solid in that sense.

The gel is about an eighth of an inch thick, so if you could find some foam or other soft material about that thickness you could see if it might help you out. Essentially it would be like adding layers of socks but only in specific areas.

I hope some of the above rambling was helpful.

it seems that my ankles are loose too... and i saw the bunga pads on sale...

bought a pair of the ankle sleeves... so its thicker all around my ankles...

havent skated using them yet but upon trying them... it seems that its tighter...

for the more seasoned skaters... ur comment on this?
