RatTlErsHocKeY88 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Well, Today in one of my in house games everyone was playing rough. There where alot of penalties going un called. Me and another player from the team I was playing against had a good battle going on all night in our defensive zones. But with three minutes to go in regulation i slide and knocked the puck away from him and he falls down. I got all puck on the poke check. Then he jumps up and as I get up takes his stick and baseball swings it into the back of my leg. I look at him and stand there, like we are going to fight. I was giving a minor penalty for sumthing and they let the kid who swung his stick and hit me stays on the floor playing until my coach pressed the issue with the ref's. Then he gets a two minute for sumthing too. I know getting up and addressing him was wrong. But this is just a in house league game. This was just to give us something to do and develop more skills. Shouldnt he have been giving a penalty for attmp to injur another player? And if this happend to you would you go and talk to the commissoher of the league? Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Sounds like some bad refs, usually not much you can do.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 I'm not sure where you play, but this seems to happen once every 2 or 3 games to me.
hattrick74 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 bad refs for sure, i got kicked out of a co-ed game for "attempt to injure" sure that sounds bad, but here is what happened, this kid was hot dogin the whole game (in co-ed!!) and he tries to check me and i raise my arms and stick to protect my self and the guy checks my stick, nothing happened to the guy didnt get hurt, didnt really react at all. i get kicked out for attempt to injure, with the ref saying "you cross checked him in the head"!! the problem was this kid was friends will all the refs and was score keeper for most adult games, rather ridiculous if you ask me
Jordan6969 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Yeah i know what you mean, this year in my recreational roller hockey league it turned into an absolute gong show. The year before there kids that didn't really take things to seriously but now the league added 2 teams. One from the north and another from a small town. Those teams took things so seriously that they just started playing dirty and pretty soon fights started to break out. To add to this the refs were horrid and were calling off goals if teams were losing too bad.
RatTlErsHocKeY88 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Wow, everyone Thanks for the response. My Parents thinks its just me and my brother saying the refs are horrible and out for us . We are descent players probably the better players in our rec. league. My brother plays travel but i do not. The ref favors a few team in the leaque mainly the team his son plays on. Week before last I asked the referee a question and he gave me 2 minutes un sprtman like. All i asked was when our teams penalty was up. He said you say something again youll get another peanlty..... Kinda weird. And he gives my brother a penalty for tripping when he wasnt even on the floor It was just got on his first shift and tapped the puck away and this kid fell. He wasnt in the game 25 seconds.. O Well nothing I can do but basically Play The Gamre and Go With What They Say..Not Right but its what I gotta do..
Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 No ref should ever do a game if his son is playing. Sounds like the kind of prick that gives other refs a bad name.
RatTlErsHocKeY88 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 I Diff. Agree..Me and my coach have pressed the issue..but they never do anything about it. They is so much politics at the rink I play at its not funny. You would think he'd know how to ref. fair if his kid played a big tournaments like Torhs. Briggy 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 I know what you mean. When I was playing a rec game this kid comes from behind me and boards me, head first. I was allright, but when i went to talk to the ref he said that i was off balance. When i skated in i had already stopped, the kid just got kicked out for the rest of the game, while i found that his father was putting an assload of money into the rink. I heard recently that the kid was banned from the rink so i guess thats Karma.
EndGame 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 I play in the adult leagues at Shooters. The refs aren't terribly good at controlling the game. In two games last season there were situations where one guy should have been tossed out for "intent to injure" but was only given a few minutes in the box. The same guy also violated the profanity rule, which is an automatic 10 minutes in the box, but was only given two.
duckjob 1 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 We've got a couple real good refs at the rink i play at, most though just seem to not like us and ref accordingly. I have a nice example for you. Last game, buddy of mine was high sticked to the face, bad enough to cut him and cause him to start bleeding pretty badly. no penalty was called against the other team, he left the rink to the locker room during play so he could clean it up, and we were given a too many men on the floor penalty. gotta love it. Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 No ref should ever do a game if his son is playing. Sounds like the kind of prick that gives other refs a bad name. Happens all the time here. Refereeing in my area of southern Ontario has become a joke. Kids reffing their brothers, dads reffing sons, the list of that never ends. Hockey has become so political it sickens me. Its not really political. A while back, a dad reffed his son which was on my team. It was such a even game and we ended up winning 5-4. It was so even, they even got a penatly shot but as soon as they found out that the ref was reffing his son we had to forfit the game. I couldnt believe it, they only cared cause they lost. Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2004 Your in Whitby, I'm right next door (in Oshawa). The reffing here is terrible, and it seems like it gets worse every day. Honestly, the reffing here is terrible as opposed to NY reffing and GTHL reffing. We played high school teams here in Oshawa (Dwyer specifically) from Toronto (St. Mikes) and they couldn't believe it. They won and thought THEY could have had more penalties. They then invited us to their invitational tourny at the school and the reffing was great. Every team got a fair chance. I guess Durham is just unlucky. It seems as if although the reffs are the only ones getting paid at this level they just don't care to do their job.
