Lie Question

Recommended Posts

I've been using the sakic for 6 months or so, but when stickhandling, I tend to have a nice amount of blade off of the ice. Would it be safe to say I need a 5? The rocker is confusing me here on what lie I should move to, which is why I am asking what you guys think. The rocker makes it not play like a true 5.5 correct? Hard to explain what I am thinking, sorry. Thanks guys.

the EXACT same thing with me! I use an Int. and when I switched to the sakic with the 5.5 lie i get a lot of heel, which im assuming is happening to kovalchuk. I got the heel of the blade while taking slappers and stickhandling, I am 5'4 and a half and weigh 115 lbs. I just yesterday got the same stick as I had the Sakic (Stealth), with the Heatley curve, which is a 4.5 and when I tested it today for a good 3 hours it is absolutely perfect! the answer for me was a lower lie. so consider that, Kovalchuck

My P88 with the rockered heel is about 5.5 lie...works great for stickhandling but I hit the heel with shots from time to time. 5 lie Montreal Euro works a lot better for my shooting, don't use it though as the stick got too whippy. I'd try out a 5 lie blade and see how you like it in all aspects of the game.

Which part of the blade aren't you using? That is to say, are you stickhandling with the heel or the toe of the blade?

stickhandling with too much of the heel.

stickhandling with too much of the heel.

Then you need a lower lie.

Even with the rocker? Thats what confuses me, because doesn't the rocker make it play different than a 5.5 or am I totally wrong?

Rocker doesn't change the natural lie of the blade, it just allows you to get by with something that isn't exactly what you need. If the toe of your blade is up off the ice, the lie is wrong. No matter how big the rocker is, the blade should sit relatively flat on (or level to) the ice when you use it.

Every blade is going to have a "natural lie" that is formed by the angle of the shaft and the blade. No matter how much the bottom is sculpted to form the rocker, you can't really change that angle. (insert post of someone creating an example that doesn't exist at retail)

A Warrior Draper lie 4 blade/stick might be what you are looking for.

Warrior's Draper curve is supposed to be similar to Easton's Sakic curvewise, and is available in a 4 lie. Warrior's lies are generally 1 off of Easton's, so their 4 lie should be similar to an Easton 5 lie. If I remember right the Eason/Sakic is a 5.5 lie, so the Warrior Draper 4 lie should put more of your blade on the ice.

I switched from an Easton/Forsberg(lie 5) to a Warrior Fedorov(lie 4) and finally to a Warrior Draper 4 lie. With the same shaft length I wear out my blade tape in the same place on all 3 blades.
