Belfour to Sweden?

Recommended Posts

Nice...he's going to drink Leksand dry.

That being said, Leksand STILL hasn't gotten back to the Elitserien?

I remember when they were relegated a few years back.

It's kinda of an embarrassment for a goalie like Belfour to be playing in a basically Tier 2 foreign league. He's accomplished too much to be relegated to such duty. He should just pull the trigger and retire.

JR: They got back (in the Eliteserie) the very next season, only to get relagated again asap.

After their second relagation in 3 years they still haven't bounced back.

Yeah...and the thing was, they held the longest record without being relegated before the first time.

Leksand is one of the most popular teams in Sweden, even though they may be in the second division.

Although, one can say that Belfour has been an embarrassment to the NHL in recent years...

The concept of retiring is very scary for a lot of professional athletes. I've read a lot of info about it. Especially for self-destructive guys like Belfour, they know if they stop playing their bad habits will likely get the best of them. Pretty sad really as they feel they have/are absolutely nothing if they're not playing.

How's that work?

So that he doesn't get taxed...

Yes exactly!, the team doesn't have to pay any tax on his salary. The downside of a artist contract is that he is only allowed to stay in sweden for 6 months. If the team have him playing in sweden longer than 6 months, the team has to pay double the tax for every payment he gets..

Lubos Bartecko signed a similar contract with Lulea Hockey last year, but his run for 3 seasons.
