Lightweight Pants/Girdle

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a lightweight pair of pants or girdle. I need something that will be protective, but not hinder my skating. I am transitioning from roller to ice, and need something that will ease the transition. I got some CCM 652 pants off of eBay, and when I put them on I knew that there would be no way for me to skate in them. The protection was incredible, but they were just too bulky for me. Also, can anyone suggest some pants/girdle that have a shorter inseam? I like for them to fit kind of short.

In response to your question about length:

Tacklas can be had in varying lengths (will likely need to be special ordered)

newer Missions have adjustable leg lengths built right in.

I had been wearing a mission roller hockey girdle for beer league but played alot of defense last year and was getting pretty beat up. I bought a pair of Tackla 951 pants and dont find them bulky at all. They look like they are but they're really very comfortable and not restrictive at all.

As was pointed out above you can order them shorter or longer (which I did).

i tried the ccm and bauers and the top of the line pants were too bulky for me. i ended up going with the bauer 6000's. i didn't get to try the tackla's because they didn't have any in stock but i've heard nothing but good things about them.

i would also suggest tacklas and newer missions as damnlocust said because of the length options. I have worn tacklas and have missions now and i suggest giving either one a try.

I had been using CCM Supras for as long as I can remember, but last year I picked up a pair of NBH XV Lights and they work for me a whole lot better than the Supras did. They aren't nearly as bulky and much lighter, which is what I believe you're looking for. I bought them in a medium and they're just below the top of my shin when skating so they don't restrict at all.

Tacklas are always a good choice too though.

the tackla 951 is a good pair of pants at a sweet deal too! no complaints here accept after a year they started ripping from the inside =/.

Did you ever wear an inline girdle for roller hockey? When I played ice and roller I had a Mission He10000 girdle (thanks Fletch) that I would use for roller and then put on a Tackla pro-stock shell (the one with the thigh protection but no kidney/hip protection) over top and it worked fine.

The combo is lighter than the XXX Lite pants I wear now. More protection in the thigh area than the XXX Lites, but less tailbone protection. Fine for my non-checking beer league.

I'm looking at switching from the CCM852s (which I like, but are a little bit bulky) to the Vapor XXX Lites... but then I saw the Reebok 9Ks... now I'm not so sure. But if you're looking for light pants, then the Vapor XX Lite and the XXX Lite are obviously good.

You should think about the RBK 6k pants too. They have adjustable wraps on the thighs (like some girdles do) so you can wear them tight or loose, and the protection has been fine (I play defense in a beer league - no hitting, but plenty of pucks shot at me). Oh yeah, they have adjustable length on the thigh pads too. I had a 1st gen pair of these that got shredded around the zippers, but my new ones seem to be okay (and the zipper has a tab closure now too).

I also have a pair of the new Missions (Fuel 110 or 120 I think), and they fit much more loose/bulky. Also, as far as I can tell, the length adjustment on the Missions only goes 1 way - longer. You have two rows of buttons to which the leg pads can attach to the shell, but the default attachment is to the top row already. So I think you can move them down to the next row of buttons to make them longer, but you can't make them shorter. Maybe I'm just not that smart and haven't figured it out though. I haven't worn them on the ice because I needed shorter pants, not longer...

ps - I went from a Mission inline girdle/shell a couple of years ago to the 6Ks and I thought it was a relatively easy transition.

I play both inline and ice and use a Bauer Vapor girdle and a Tackla shell. I'm happy with the weight. It's worth looking into it.

I have been using the Easton Synergy girdle along with the Synergy 700 shell for ice hockey....and the combination is great. Great protection with the girdle, full stretch fit so it doesn't move and comforms to your body very well. And then combined with the shell....great kidney protection and abrasion resistance.

almost anything is going to be lighter and less bulky than a 652 besides a few other ccm pants.

I have to obligatorily throw out my one90 pant recommendation. These are the most comfortable, and most mobile pants I have tried on to date. As far as weight goes, I couldn't tell you what they weigh but they certainly aren't heavy.

I use a Bauer Vapor 8 girdle and any shell.

Tackla and Easton also make incredibly light, and very protective girdles.

Traditional hockey pants have always felt too bulky on me, and almost make me feel like I am wearing diapers. :)

I've got a mission roller hockey girdle, and it is a no checking league, so I might use that. Can anyone suggest a shell? Do most shells have additional padding?

Most shells I've seen have none. The pro-stock Tackla's I've got have the thigh padding, but I'm not sure if all Tackla shells do.

Some shells will have additional padding at the top of the shell.....around the kidney's and hips of the shell. I know that on my Easton Synergy 700's they do.
