how to battle sweat in the skates?

Recommended Posts

I am not saying do it, but you could have small holes drilled in the bottom of the boot or use a sock like a Nike or UA that is designed to keep the feet dry and wick away moisture.

Pros have the factory or the trainer drill 4or 5 small (5/32) holes in the bottom of the boot between the front and the back of the holder grouped quite closely together. Probably less than an inch

I don't know if you're worried about the lining of your boots wearing down too quickly but it this is your concern then here's what you can do. When you're done playing, take the insole of the boot out and loosen your laces enough that you can pull the tongue away from the boot so that the moisture inside can evaporate. I also take my skates out of the bag and let them dry out when I get home. This helps them last longer and it will also help keep your rivots from rusting out. In the long run, you won't be able to prevent your skates from breaking down but this will help them last a lot longer.

how can i get rid of sweat in my skates while they are still on my feet?(currently using g35)

If you mean this literally (i.e. you want your feet to be dry while you are skating)...Botox on your feet would be your best bet (talk to a doctor-don't go looking in your kitchen for some swollen cans and do it yourself).

Doesnt help that much, cause there is the insole on top of the holes. The holes actually help airing the skates out after the game.

What kind of footbed do you use and do you wear socks, if so, what kind of socks?

Personally, I think sweaty skates are just a part of the game. I skate barefoot and kinda like that warm moisture on my hoofs. Like LC, I dry out my skates after every skate. The hardest part is fishing out the footbeds. Funny, my old Bauer 6000's were really nasty smelling, but my G5's don't smell that bad at all. Sorry Trip if this post is usless to you, but good luck in your quest for dry feet.

oxy socks a few holes solved the sweating problem for me.

My feet still get wet, but not as wet as before.

Your socks could be a big issue there. Depending on how thick they are, they could be just soaking up all your sweat. Oxysox, like someone recommended, don't absorb the sweat as much and will help your foot feel drier. I wear oxysox with a pair of pro tacks and don't have any problems with overly wet skates.

moister wicking socks pull the sweat away from your feet. Cotton socks hold moisture on your foot. Get a wicking sock and air out your skates after using them, that's probably the best thing you can do.

Lanny McDonald when he played for the Flames used to sweat really bad... his hand and his feet.

He used sweat bands on his wrists and his ankles and said it helped huge to keep his skates dryer. Without the sweat bands on his ankles he used to say he could poor the water out of his skates

I'm pretty much the same way as I sweat profusely. All of my gear and jersey is soaked by the end of a game for me. Skates take on a lot of sweat as it is the lowest part of my body and all of the sweat just naturally flows downhill. A good skate sock is all I use and simply accept the fact that I have wet skates and gear. Never tried the sweat bands....might have to try those on my wrists to help out with how wet my gloves get. Good tip.

how about a little talcum powder in your boot to absorb some of the moisture, works for hiking.

Hadn't tried that yet. I have used Gold Bond though on the insteps of my feet sometimes. Especially when I first get out of my skates during a tournament weekend....helps to dry my feet out real quick and also alleviate hot spots or blisters.

Definitely try a sweat-band around yur upper ankle, just above the skate. That combined with a wicking sock should have you in much better shape.

I have 3 hours of practice tomorrow....so I am thinking that I will run up to Dick's today and grab a handful of sweat bands and give it a shot during practice tomorrow. Thanks for the tips!!
