Making custom wood blades

Recommended Posts

I am wanting to play around with a wood blade to make a custom curve. The thing is I want a long blade with a low lie, so my options of a base blade to start with are limited (because of the length). So I would need to shave down the heel of the blade to get the low lie I want. The question is once I have shaved down the heel till the point where there is no more fibreglass liminate can I re-laminate the blade and what would be the best stuff to use?

well i would recommend going to an auto parts store (auto zone, etc). around here, they sell fiberglass cloth in the store. It's with the body filler and the spray paint, and it is used to repair holes in boat hulls. however, it works perfectly for adding a little extra lamination on the bottom of blades.

The supplies needed for doing that will cost more than getting custom blades and you'll end up with a far less durable and effective stick by doing it yourself.

Yeah I am planning to get some customs, but I want to tinker with my pattern to get it just the way I want before I send it off. And I will need to supply I master copy anyway.

Also the supplies didn't cost that much in the end. Thanks for all your help guys!

Get some custom Christians, six blades for $200. Not super cheap but better than making your own.

I second that motion.
