RBK 8k vs. 6K Helmet

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, can anyone tell me the main difference between the two helmets and if the 8k is worth the extra money between the 6k.

Also if anyone has any opinions on the helmet, please share them.

Thanks

Occipital adjustment in the back is really the big difference between the two. 8K has it, 6K doesn't.

Honestly, I don't like the soft material they put in the helmets. I tried on the 8k, 6k, and 4k, and the 4k was the most comfy on my head. The 8 and 6 actually pulled hair out of my head when I took it off for some reason. Guess I need a haircut.

I got the 8 when it first came out.. really love it.. but I never use the Micro-Dial in the back.. wish I would've waited for the 6. Might get the 6 anyway in a diff color

I've had them both and I would definitely say go for the 6. the inner shell and the micro dial, IMO, make no difference what so ever. I also prefer the padding in the 6k. and it's just as light

If the 6k fits properly, you should get that one. The dial and adjustments on the 8k are only useful if the helmet doesn't fit and if the helmet doesn't fit, why buy it?

No helmet has or will ever fit me right off the rack , so having the ability to adjust it is crucial for me when buying a helmet.

That is why I went with a Bauer 8500.

The 8k is however really nice helmet, I was ever so close to picking it up.

Depending on what kind of a deal you catch it on you can often get the 8k online for close to the same price that 6k's sell for in stores.

All depends on what you feel most comfortable with though.

Then you sir, have a very oddly shaped head. I've never seen someone who can't find a helmet that fits, usually it's only kids who only want (their parents) to buy a particular brand. From the narrow 4000/4500 to the roundness of a CCM, it's amazing how different the options really are. Finding a shop that stocks them all can be a major problem though.

I love the look of the RbK buckets, but I back the 4500. Even if you're cranially endowed like myself, they come in a nice XL size at a very good price.

It's not just size, it's shape. An XL 4500 won't help someone with a round head.

while we're on the subject of helmets fitting properly, the only helmet i can find that fits my head is the bauer 4000. the most comfortable helmet ive ever worn.

the NBH 4500s dont fit because they have that extra layer of black foam between the shell and the white foam and it just doesnt feel right, the intake squeezes my head on the sides and the CCMS on the front.

im looking at getting a new helmet soon, the one i have is about 9 years old, if not more. I was hoping to upgrade, get something with a bit more protection against concussions and whatnot. any suggestions?

Lol. That's what I did. My parents wanted to buy me a Messier style helmet when I was a kid, and I dodged it. It fit me well, but I said it didn't, and I ended up getting my 1st CCM HT2. I bought another one when that one's life span ran out. Now, it's time for a real bucket.

Your 4000 is broken in, chances are the 4500 will feel the same once you play a few games.

I originally thought that the dial didn't do a thing, but I did notice that my 8K hugged the back of my head better than my other helmet, a CCM 1052. While wearing my CCM, I recently took a weird hit where my helmet shifted off the back of my head and that's now got me reconsidering how well that dial might work after all.
