Sid the Kid will play every team in the NHL next season.

The league's current schedule format will be history after this season, the NHL's board of governors finally agreeing that change was needed Tuesday.

''I think it's clear that there will be a change,'' NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said after the four-hour meeting with owners.

A formal vote will take place at the next board of governors' meeting in late November.

Well obviously its a positive step in the right direction, but it still doesn't fully adress the fact that even though every team will play every other team, the fans wont see every other team each year.

Hockey already has a very dedicated core fan base. They will follow hockey because its their passion. But for the NHL to regain the losses it has seen to other sports since the 80s/90s then its the casual supporter they need to fully capture, without straying from its historic and traditional roots to dter the hardcore.

New uniforms wont do this. Fully exploiting the excitement created around sidney crosby and Alex ovechkin by letting every fan have the opportunity of seeing them every year in their own teams stadium will make hockey grow.

Why can't the NHL see this??? Am I the only one with this opinion?

Nah I think it should be that way as well, it can be done just requires a huge logistics nightmare.

Each season: Home & Away against all 29 opponets (58games)

12games in division (additional til H & A)

12games in conference (non-division) (additional til H & A)

82 in all.

Also agree. Sad the NHL is so near sighted in everything they do. It's not going to change until younger owners and new league management steps into place.
