big ben

Are my abilities limited?

This may be a stupid question, but I'm curious. I have a pair of Bauer 2090s that I've been using, and I'm wondering if I need a stiffer skate. I'm about 6' 215 lbs, and sometimes have trouble with flex. When I skate, I feel like they are leaning inward too much, and it can't be weak ankles because I've skated most my life. Should I upgrade?

It may be the case. You are well over 200 pounds and the 2090 is a low end skate basically an entry level hockey skate. The only way to be positive is to move up to a middle of the line or top end skate. The Supreme 50 or better might be a good bet and will give you basically the same fit. If you can get your hands on a pair try them out and see how they perform for you.

no doubt in my mind you should go further up in the line. at 6'/215, you'll not only NOT getting the proper support you should be looking for, but you'll also probably chew through your 2090s in about a month and a half if you're on the ice 2-3 times a week. i would definitely agree with going the Supreme50 route, and would even recommend top-end skates (One90, XXXX, 9K, V.10, XP/AG 120, S15, Synergy 1500, etc) depending on how often you're on the ice. :D

On the ice about twice a week, and i can see where the skates are starting to get stress marks from the boot twisting.

I also agree ,its time to upgrade. What sort of budget are you working with ? If you tell people what you can spend you'll get some good suggestions for skates in your price range :) .

I'm 6' 225 and have been using my Easton 800's for 6 months. They feel just as stiff as when they were new and are pretty affordable (might be able to find them for about $200). I'm no skate expert, but i think the composite outsole makes them alot stronger and stiffer than traditional construction. I don't see the skates ever breaking down, only the fiber possibly chipping and peeling (haven't had it happen to mine).

You could probably even get a pair of Vapor XXX pretty cheap butit would be a different fit than what you're in now.

If they are leaning inward then maybe check to make sure you got the correct fitting skate is what I'd do first. Even if you upgrade and they don't fit you correctly you still might get the inward pronation if they are a bit too volume-ous for you.

I like how bauers fit but I feel like I was alot quicker before when I had some tacks, they were cheapies as well, Tacks 152s. I feel like should be on my toes more during starts, some skates I'm lookin at are tacks 692/892 then, vectors 6.0, then bauer xiv or supreme 50, and possibly mission ag/xp 90. If i choose missions it would probably be the ag because it has more forward flex and i normally leave 1 and sometimes two eyes undone.

if u do go with the AGs plan on giving them 4-5 sessions to get used to the fit. i wore tacks in bantam before switching to mission and it took me basically 1/4 of the summer season to really feel at home. that being said if u dont mind that then the fit is absolutely wonderful.

I was lookin at the CCM Vectors 6.0 SE but I dunno if i can get used to the looks, the yellow laces would definately have to be switched, I'm intriqued by the bauer supreme 50s but I'm not sure if they will put me too far on my heels.

How differently do the Missions fit?

My foot is narrow, I wear a c-d width in most boots and I have no real arch. I need to go to a LHS but here in College Station there is only the little shop at the rink.
