Little Jagr tidbit for those interested in the nuts and

The washington post beat writer Tarik el Bashir done a piece today, since the caps have the rags tonight called "Jagrs shadow still lingers in DC"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...7101102188.html

The caps are done with their obligation to Jagr this year unless one of the following occur...

If the Rangers win a playoff round this season and Jagr scores 40 goals during the regular season.

If they win a playoff round and he scores 84 points during the regular season.

If he wins the Hart (MVP), Art Ross (scoring title) or Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) trophies.

"I wasn't here during the whole Jagr thing," Capitals captain Chris Clark said, "but shutting him down is something we always want to do. We are paying much of his salary."

Jagrs salary this year is $8.36 mil, with the rags on the hook for $4.9 of that, the caps for $3.46

The Caps better hope the Rangers get upset in the first round or a Jagr injury because if he stays healthy Jags is gonna get his 84 points.

Sorry, didn't read the article, but I'm under the impression the money the Caps pay him doesn't count against the cap though right? When you think about it the Rangers really are getting a pretty good deal here in terms of the cap number Jagr has right now.

On another Jagr note, anyone catch the OLN broadcast of the Rags/Islanders game the other night? They talked about Jagr using RBK sticks again, saying that Cass Marques, the Rangers equipment manager had to put additional material in the palms of his gloves to compensate for the RBK shafts being skinnier than his CCM ones.

Jagrs salary is $8.36 mil, only $4.9 of that counts to the cap, and thats to the rangers cap. The $3.46 the caps pay, doesn't count to either team cap.

This has allowed them to have more wiggle room under the cap.

If he doesn't meet those benchmarks this year (and I would say he has a decent chance to make them), then if the rags want him next year, he will either take a huge discount, or if not, they are going to have to find more cap room which might mean letting go of a guy like Shanny.

This is from the article...

Because of the arrangement, the Rangers pay only $4.9 million of Jagr's $8.36 million salary, and only that amount counts against the salary cap, not his full cost. That gave General Manager Glen Sather additional room under the $50.3 million cap when he added free agent centers Chris Drury and Scott Gomez this summer.

Asked whether the Rangers enjoy a competitive advantage because of the deal, which was made before the salary cap system was implemented, Bill Daly, the NHL's deputy commissioner, wrote in an e-mail: "It's no different than a long-term contract that turns out well for one party or the other. . . . The fact that others perceive that value is 'artificially low' now, doesn't mean it was 'low' then."

I don't know what he's got, but my CCM is much thinner than the RBK SickKick I have.

75% chance of Shanny retiring after this season
