I beleive teams are granted a number of "exceptions" for some players based on the contract. That being said companies don't put their logo over another brand's stuff, they would black it out if anything.

They have pre-agreed upon percentages for skates, sticks, and goaltender gear. This year at the U it's 50% in sticks, 65% skates, and one goalie... it is supposed to increase each year. But with Nike unloading Bauer it will be interesting to see if those percentages go out the window now. The school has a 7 year deal with Nike so they will still use Nike jerseys and socks, but the actual equipment contract will be up for grabs.

The other thing is to look at the player who is wearing them. Okposo is a high profile player and NBH wants to have him in their newest stuff hoping that when he goes pro they will be able to get him signed to an endorsment deal.

Can companies do that? I mean give special treatment to one kid? I know that the school gets a deal or free equipment for being sponsored, but if one kid gets items unavailable to anyone else on the team is that not getting close to an NCAA violation?

You wouldn't think so. But if you were trying to market a product wouldn't you give it one of the best players on the team? van Riemsdyk wears them for UNH also.

yea im interested what school he went to too. i would have guessed that he played for the hitmen or something. i didnt expect a kid to play division 1 hockey from a nj prep school

Yes he played for two years for CBA where he won a NJ State Cup. He actually passed up on the U18 tryouts for his state final, only later to receive an offer for an individual tryout. Played for brick his entire life I believe. Sported his ugly green helmet for years.
