Mtl rumor mill - anyone heard aout this?

Recommended Posts

I have no link to confirm this, but a local rumor has Ryder, Murray, and Halak going to Tampa for Richards - anyone hear anything to add some credibility to this? I would be up for that swap right away.

I want to say P.J. Stock said something about it being a deal he'd like to see and the media ran with it. Its been floating around for a few days and theres nothing to it.

It sounds like it could make sense for both teams, but wouldn't Tampa want a defensive prospect rather than Murray? Also Richards is gona need to want to play in Montreal, and thats a tough sell

I'm for any deal that gets a quality player in exchange for Ryder and Murray, but I'd hate to see Halak go. Huet has great numbers this year and is a solid goalie, but does have the tendancy to have off games and give up bad goals...the goal against the Hurricanes in OT a couple years ago that eliminated the Habs in the playoffs, the final game of the season last year, Saturday night against the Leafs. Personally I think the Canadiens would be better off trading Huet and going with a Halak Price combo. It'd be risky as both are young, but the value of Huet should be decent now. At least the Canadiens are now playin Kostitsyn on the second line instead of Latendresse...something I've been hoping to see for a long time now. If Latendresse was included in a trade I wouldn't be heartbroken, but I don't think he'll get traded due to his popularity with some fans in Montreal.

There is no way you could get Richards for that little.

Ryder has 2 goals, Murray doesn't even dress, and Halak has only played a handful of games.

and Althoma the goal against Carolina was deflected by Rivet.

Huet is near the top of nearly every goalie category yet everyone has no respect for him or wants to trade him asap

He's currently rumoured to Ottawa with Ranger Emery, Kelly, Foligno, and some minor leaguers. He was rumoured to Toronto last week for either McCabe or Kubina and someone else.

He's a good player who is underachieving based on his contract. He's always in rumours.

you people are CRAZY.... unless MAD man mike was the new GM for tampa that trade would never happen. you couldn't even do that trade in nhl08 let alone in real life.

There are certain lines that should not be crossed, even on the internet, and this is one of them! I wouldn't wish that fate on ANY team (Rags aside, of course.) :P In fact, as of this year, I'm recognizing May 29th as a holiday, celebrating the day that lunatic ended his association with the Isles, stating he missed the "decision-making" aspect of the game.

He's welcome to play in my NHL fantasy league anytime, though. I wonder if he'd take DiPietro and Mark Parrish in a deal for Luongo, Jokinen, and Heatley or Gaborik again?

I didn't realize the Carolina goal was deflected by Rivet...but it still came from a long way out just over the blue line. I do respect Huet and never said he was a bad goalie. He does have great numbers and is a great goalie on most nights, but he does have the odd off game and lets in a few bad goals here and there. I guess you could say that about a lot of goalies though...I suppose I was just spoiled by growing up watching Roy who averaged a bad game about every 5 years or so instead of a few a season. I do realize Hall of fame goalies don't come along every day though.

I just think Price does look very good and Halak also looks to have a lot of promise. Since Halak is younger than Huet and has a lot of potential I'd be hesitant to trade him, but they may have to do so eventually anyway as it's tough to keep two number one calibre goalies on a team at the same time and I think both Halak and Price have the potential to be great number one goalies. I have no problem with the Habs keeping Huet though. He's great on most nights and will be responsible for more wins than losses.

Consider that in the salary cap era very few trades (much like the NFL) will be of equal value on each side.

The NHL is more like the NBA than the NFL. I think you get a handful of "equal value" deals in the NBA. The NFL is just a different beast where you don't see many player for player trades, so it's almost exclusively player for draft pick(s). The only blockbuster NFL trade I can think of that didn't fit that mold was Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey.

But in regards to the NHL/NBA, if Tampa's objective was just to get rid of Richards' contract then it would be difficult to get equal talent back.

That said, I don't buy that rumor. If they wanted Halak, they could probably get it done without trading Richards. This is the same GM that gave up a first round pick for Shane O'Brien and a top 5 pick for Ruslan Fedotenko and Brad Lukowich.

Don't forget Yashin for Chara and Spezza. He's not so bad - between those guys, and Wade Redden, that man did more for the Ottawa Senators organization than any of their own GM's ever could have!

Trust me, I didn't forget, but there are only so many Milbury moves I can address at one time before I start to choke on my own vomit.
