What do you do to your blade before you tape it?

Recommended Posts

Andover tape plus putting mr zoggs under the tape as well as twice over the tape gives me an extra 2-3 games with the same tape job.

TBLfan, do you do this to wood blades, composites, or both? I'm thinking of trying it since i'm burning through tape recently...

Composites. If you use wood blades you should take off the tape after every skate as soon as you can so that the blade can properly dry.

I might want to warn you that I'm not hard on my blades and my tape... I dont like the feeling of dragging my blade on the ice the the blade stays in the air unless I'm puckhandling or I know I have a good chance at getting a quick pass/deflection. My reflexes and hands are good enough that I don't need to be a blade dragger. B)

I usually talk to it. Tell it how nice it looks. Be nice to your blade and it will be nice to you! ;)

Just tape it from heel to toe and apply wax. Heat the wax and re-wax it.

Wax the blade with mr zoggs.

Interesting. What does that do versus just waxing the tape job?

I do both. Not only does it help the wax soak into the tape when I melt it in but it makes it easier for the tape to come off.

That's exactly what I do. Just put a light coat of Mr. Zog's on then heat, wait to cool then put another coat on and it's a charm. Ah the smell of Mr. Zog's Sex Wax and it's great for your stick

I LOVE MR. ZOGG"S Sex Wax. I buy it at some of the local surf shops for my surfboard and hockey stick. I put electrical tape along the bottom then put white cloth tape over it. Then it's "Sexy Time" with the sex wax.lol. I also put it on the shaft of my Stealth CNT for grip because its "The best for your stick"! I dig the cocnut scent. I sometimes smell the shaft in between periods. :P

first a white strip of tape heel to toe, followed by a full tape using black from heel to toe. essentially so that when the tape is beginning to wear through you can detect it earlier when you see the white tape.

When skating without the puck you're 'pitchforking'???

I do the Marty St Louis thing, both hands on the stick and the blade about 5" above the ice unless I'm sprinting or know I have a chance at getting/deflecting the puck... so yes. haha

As long as you're alert and you pick your moments correctly it really isn't a horrible thing. But it does take good reflexes and quick reaction times.

I, like many others in this thread, place a horizontal strip on the bottom, then tape normally.

Sometimes I might take old tape and rub it along the blade to get the old pieces of tape that stuck on, off.

I tried the Patrick Marleu thing, with the toe taped, and the horizontal strips, didn't work out too well, as the end of the horizontal strip started to peel off instantly.
