shawn o 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 I haven't picked it up for several years and saw it recently at newsstands in a magazine format. Is it worth the $60 US they're asking for a years subscription?
Chadd 916 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 Most of the info is widely available on the internet long before it reaches your home. That's why I dropped it years ago.
Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 It's a decent pub, and some of the articles are very good.
DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 The bonus magazines are very good. They do a pre-season preview and a draft preview magazine. They are included with the price of subscription. They just changed the format and are now only sending 3 copies a month. They are claiming to go more internet info, rather than printed/dated info. It makes sense. The problem is the subscription price stayed the same. I know it is expensive to print/mail/etc but I was a bit po'ed. However, since I have subscribed since 1969, I mailed out the renewal check last week! Force of habit.
Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 I get it for the bathroom convenience. While the info is already available online as chadd says, I still like a conventional read every now and then. You can tell when their feature stories are good by how long it takes for the feeling to get back into your legs :)

DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 all-right, all-right, I'll give it up too. The Hockey News and bathroom reading are perfect together. The worst is when you have finished the issue but not your business.

Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 You guys should invest in a laptop and wireless internet. ;) hahaI have both, but still, with the actual paper magazine, there is a relaxing aspect to it. It's been done back to when cavemen used to read the cave paintings while dumping in a hole. That became early nomads reading on etched slates while squeezing one out in the woods of nottingham. From there, bazaar merchants in the middle east would unfurl the parchment while the sandstorms raged outside their tents. Then it was early bound books, held together with large pieces of wood, that caused splinters in the hand while the outhouse caused splinters in the hole. That brings us up to today, where man can shed his beastly past, turn on the heat, drop trou, open up the hockey news, read some stories of interest, sometimes while on a padded seat.A laptop somehow feels too sterile after enduring the hardship of the reading dumping man throughout time. The bathroom is the one place a man can be himself, unfettered by smells he creates, and god damn it, if that means taking a little longer to read about tootoos journey from the tribe to the ice, then I'll do it!!!!(there should be some sort of soft music playing here, while you read, building up into a powerful conclusion)So I say, no thank you laptop, thank you Hockey news paper edition, you have set me free

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 The only benefit the paper magazine offer is if worse comes to worse and you run out of toilet paper, haha.

Sichy 6 Report post Posted December 1, 2007 Since November, The Hockey News has adopted a magazine-style, and with this new look, they have decided to reduce its statistical information which is made readily available online and they have attempted to increase its coverage on stories on players, teams, etc. Also, subscribers are able to access The Hockey News online via their All-Access Pass.Personally, I haven't really noticed much change to the magazine/newspaper minus the statistics and a thinner copy. Though, I don't think The Hockey News is as bad as some of you make it out to be. It's a good read for the most part.
