To quote The Barenaked Ladies: "It's all been done."

Great Skate pricing: Typically, yes, the online prices reflect those you'll see in the store.

The majority of the employees at Great Skate aren't really hockey people, and their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. If you're going to need help and insight in sizing/picking a piece of equipment, I'd go somewhere else - those guys will say anything to make a sale.

Also, I'd avoid having anything done to your gear (skates) while you're there. I work in Front Row Sports in the Amherst Pepsi Center (a smaller pro shop about 5 minutes down the road), and I can't tell you how many of their fuck-ups we have to fix on a daily basis. Cavs had his steel butchered at Great Skate, and I can tell you that sort of thing isn't all that uncommon. I actually heard that a Great Skate salesman was recently fired for referring people to us to have their skates done.

The Front Row Sports location in Thorold, Ontario has a terrific selection, and Dave has been matching Great Skate's/U.S. pricing of late. If you're looking to hit a good shop while the "exchange rate iron" is hot, you might want to give them a try.

Distance from border: It all depends which bridge you're coming from. The Rainbow and Whirlpool Bridges in Niagara Falls are probably about 30-45 minutes from Amherst, while the Peace Bridge in Buffalo is slightly closer; probably a 20-30 minute drive.

Front Row in the Pepsi Center is where I just got my Grafs. Try their Thorold store. You won;t be disappointed if they are anything like the guys at their US store.

Just out of curiosity where do you play? I am local and play AAA in the Falls. And I will back Front Row again (especailly in Thorold). I buy all of my equipment there. :P :D

Great Skate Amherst, N.Y. Take the Rainbow Bridge to 104 East to 62 South (Niagara Falls Blvd) to the 290. Go east on the 290 to Millarsport Road. Go south to Sheridan Drive, turn east, go to SweetHome Road. Great Skate is on the south west corner of Sheridan Drive and SweetHome Road. Address is officially 3395 Sheridan Drive though. Hope this helps. Only about 15 to 20 minute drive south of the border. For you its worth the drive. You'll pay about half of what you would in Canada.

...I just got done saying that Dave is matching Great Skate's prices in light of the exchange rate being what it is.

*edit* - if you can make it to Great Skate from the Rainbow Bridge in 15 minutes, I'll give you a cookie.

I'll also back Front Row Sports in the Pepsi Center. I bought my Graf's there and would recommend them to anyone. Chris and staff do a great job.

LkptTiger: See all the potential business you can get if you carry Nike/Bauer?? Not just the initial sale, but all the repairs... Run that by Chris.

...We can't get our hands on NBH, because Great Skate would throw a bitch fit (notice Great Skate doesn't carry any TPS twigs anymore...wonder why?) and NBH isn't willing to take the hit. Great Skate has actually even threatened to drop dealings with Mission/Itech because they work with us much more closely than they do The Empire; but these threats are obviously never going to see their way to fruition, since a severing of ties with Mission/Itech would leave Great Skate pretty far behind everyone else where facial protection is concerned.
