Skate recommendations

Recommended Posts

I might be looking for new skates the next few weeks, unless I decide to wait for any new models next year. I don't think I've ever really been fit properly, and would like to get it right this time. I'm just looking for some recommendations based on my foot before I go try some out.

Yeah, my foot is as flat as a board.

This could be a long shot, but an S15 perhaps? They fit pretty wide, and my foots just a tad shorter in width than yours, and I fit in an R width with the S15. Of course, I'm biased. Love the damn skate.

It's hard to say by looking at a picture but it sure seems you'd be in a wide/E no matter what brand you choose. Look to have a wide foot from heel to toe. My foot is not even as close to as wide and I barely fit in an E width Vector Pro. So... Bauer 8090? Possibly a wide Reebok?

Your foot is flat and is wide like others have stated. I would recommend some supreme 70's (close to bauer 8090 unless you can find a pair of these), reeboks, and probably tacks if you can still find them around. You also have no arch and would need some arch support in your skates and the pronation. Try some superfeet, or orthotics if you have the money.

Yeah you should definitely get Superfeet. Most likely the Grey ones unless the heel in your skate is extremely wide in that case you'd want the Black ones. I have them in all my shoes and I can't say enough about how amazing they are.

Superfeet will only support to a certain degree though. I brought it to my doctor before getting orthotics and asked if it was alright to use this in my skate. When you step on the superfeet and its flat all the way your not going to get enough support. Orthoics is built to support all your weight.

I've got wide feet also...Worn RBK, Vector, Vapor, and Easton in the Wide version. The Easton was the widest of the bunch (S series). However in the 8090 (hard to find these days) and the Flexlite, I was regular width...Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I figured that the 8090 might be what I need, although I know it's quite hard to find know. I knew that Rbk also makes pretty wide skates, so I'll make sure to check those out.

My only worry is the durability issues that have been brought up here. I really don't want to spend $500 on a skate that might break down quickly. If they fit the best, though, I guess I have no choice.

Just wondering, are there any Graf models I should be looking at?

709/G70/G9 are the widest and deepest...

Would the G70/G9 not be too deep for my foot? I mean, the ONE90's are just barely too shallow, and I thought the deepest Grafs were much deeper.

I second the motion w/ the Flexlites... I've been through RBK's in E width, One90's in EE, Tried on Eastons and Grafs... I just picked up Flexlites- I fit in a D width, and they've been fantastic. Great price too.

Thanks for the worthless post, douchebag. <_<

Saw the Flexlite 18 at my LHS yesterday. Looked pretty nice, and if I remember correctly, it wasn't too expensive. For some reason, though, I remember hearing it's not a very stiff boot. Is that correct?

The Flexlite 18 is still a stiff boot... very good lateral support, but it allows that forward flex you need for a good stride.

Looking at the size of your heel, and how flat your arches are.....your feet appear quite similar to mine. I went through some serious pains trying to find a skate that would fit my feet properly. I finally came upon the RBK 7K's in a 9E. Looking at your feet, they appear to be a touch wider than mine...so you might be in a 9EE. But the fat heel and flat arch and wide midfoot is quite similar to my feet. Try them on and see if they work for you.

Maybe a 705 in Wide.

Your feet look wide, but I'm wondering if they are too shallow for 8090 or 709. You can sorta see by how low your ankle bones sit.

Does the 7K fit like the 9K? I'm sure the 7K is probably good enough for me, but the 9K isn't that much more expensive.

I figured my foot didn't have that much volume. Also, I assume the Ultra G5 fits like the 705?

Edit: Also, would Shift2's fit at all? I know there is someone currently doing a long-term review that came from G9's. I also know that the Shift2's are very thermoformable, but I assume it wont form to every foot.

You might be surprised. IIRC, the only thing that doesn't mold is the footbed and the toebox.

Yes they do.

The fit between the two is identical. The 9K's are however stiffer....and for my weight and level of play, they were too stiff and thus a touch uncomfortable while trying them on.

Tried the 705 in 8.5 Wide today, but it wasn't wide enough in the forefoot nor did it seem deep enough (forgot to bring a pencil to check). I also tried the Flexlite 18 in 8 regular (D or E?), which also still didn't feel wide enough.

I'm want to try a 9K EE, but my LHS doesn't carry any (and I'm not sure if they will order).

Btw, here is a tracing of my foot that I took for Kor:

I'm in the 7K 9E and my foot seems quite similar to my own. Looks as though you may be a touch wider through the midfoot than I am. That being said....I do not have any pressure points in the midfoot area in my E width skates.
