B's trade for Auld

Recommended Posts

Given Auld was obtained for a fifth round pick plus a journeyman minor leaguer, I doubt he's the one who's going to net them a solid forward.

I'd like to see them try Rask for a couple of games to see how ready he is.

Rask + Fernandez + Auld + Thomas = WTF.

No one is just going to trade a solid forward for one of those guys, there are very few teams in need of a 1A type goaltender (excluding Rask), except for the likes of LA. That said, I really don't see them moving a Frolov, Brown, or O'Sullivan for one of these guys.

The Bruins are run by the kind of guy who drafts a K in the first round of his fantasy football draft. No one's going to go for a package deal of 2-3 mediocre tendies.

With Fernandez out and Thomas joining him after tweaking his leg against NJ, the B's were forced to make a goaltending depth move. They also have Sigalet out in Providence since collapsing during a game a couple of weeks ago related to his MS.

Even if Sigalet wasn't on the shelf, the B's still would have made the move. It wouldn't be very wise to go into a stretch with Rask and Sigalet as their backstops.

They are also trying to not make the same mistake of rushing Rask along similar to what was done with Toivonen.

I read that they think Thomas will only be out a week. I realize the other tenders are hurt, but Auld seems like nothing more than a journeyman pickup. although he'll probably back up Thomas, allowing Rask to play full-time in Providence.

Auld is a stopgap until Thomas returns. My guess, Auld plays more than Rask until Thomas comes back. Once he does, I agree, Rask takes the reins in Providence and Auld opens the gate until Fernandez returns.

Fernandez can't be that far away from returning if he's on a conditioning stint.

He has a bulging disc. Chia already said he doesn't know if/when he'll get on the ice. They should have said a rehab stint instead.

The Globe said that Rask is supposed to get the next couple of starts. I hope their right, because I'd like to see how close Rask is.

From the games I've seen, both with Boston and Providence, Rask is probably a season or two away from regular duty in the NHL.

I tend to stay away from the Globe just because I can't stand KPD. Fluto is ok but KPD just annoys me, mostly for his little personal war that ran Big Joe out of town.

NHL said it was a conditioning stint and he has apperantly been recalled to the B's already.

I completely agree. He's always seemed reasoned whenever he's been on SportsPlus or Globe 10.0, but the world becomes black and white when he writes. He definitely poisoned the waters for Joe. With him it was like the whole life imitating art or art imitating life. In other words, did the Bruins really believe that or did KPD tell them they did?

I'm repeating myself from years ago, but it uses to irritate me when he'd write the Bruins are secretly unhappy with Joe's unwillingness to go to the front of the net. Whenever I watched the games, Joe would be crosschecked incessantly behind the net while he waited for a cutter, but the only image I got from KPD is the Bruins saying "Joe, we don't care if you lead the league in assists. You weigh 230. You need to take your lumps in front of the net....."

That was where KPD made it his personal mission to get Big Joe shipped out of town, because we all know that playoff fold to Montreal was all Joe's fault, playing injured btw, and not the fault of the slow footed defense that didn't have a prayer of keeping up with the Habs speedy forwards.

And yet Auld has started 2 in a row. Nice job, Globe.

He was excellent last night, although I'm concerned about how many shots the B's typically give up. We can't count on the goalies continuing to post .938 save percentages.

B's still rolling. Fernandez had what was most likely season ending knee surgery so it looks like Auld is with the B's to stay, this season at least.
