BEST Skates For Narrow Feet?

Recommended Posts

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but after trying on numerous pairs of skates I still have a few questions about skate fit.

I've heard many times that Vapors fit narrow, but to be honest, the new vapor line doesn't seem very narrow to me at all. Is it just me or has anyone else noted this change?

Also, are Shift 1's or AG120's narrow boots?

get one90's or one75's.............awesome narrow skate

Are these skates really narrow? Thus far, I have heard the opposite. Also they are a deeper boot no?

Supremes are wider than Vapors

"Easton" and "narrow" don't go together unless the words "is the antonym of" are between them.

Vapors run narrow, as do the Graf 703s (G3s, G3 Ultras).

Which Vapors? Nike Bauer Vapors? Or just Bauer Vapors?

There's no such thing as a Bauer Vapor. Just Nike-Bauer Vapors.

And TBL is right, Easton's are seldom described as "narrow".

So with the hopes that you're not using this to buy online, you'll want to ask for these when you go back to the shop:

Graf 703s, G3s

N/B Vapors, One90s (but not necessarily the Supreme line in general)

and Mission

Actually Bauer made the Vapor line before Nike bought them. I used to have a pair of Bauer Vapor 2's. If I remember correctly, the old line of Bauer Vapors is cut more narrow than the NBH Vapors. So the question is valid.

If you can find a pair of old Vapors or old Nikes on clearance or on ebay, these should run more narrow than the current line of NBH skates.

Feel free to bust me if I am wrong on this! :)

Yep, Bauer made Vapors before they were Nike Bauer Hockey. I bought a pair of the Vapor XXXX equivalents at that time (not in performance but as in top of the line model for Vapors at that time) Vapor VIIIs - what a cool yet poor fitting skate (too narrow for my foot). The first of the very stiff boots I can remember and they were NARROW. They had a bunch of triangles cut out of the steel and the steel was coated black. Boot was silver and black with some blue here and there if I recall correctly. Current Vapors are more narrow than the Supremes by the way. Later,

Bauer did make Vapors before they started calling themselves NikeBauer, but Nike did own the company by the time the first Vapors were released around '98. As for the skates you were talking about, they were called Vapor 8's (not VIII), they were the original top model Vapor skates. The next top model was the Vapor 10. They didn't start using roman numerals until the Vapor XX's came out in late 2002 / early 2003.

The strange thing I have found about Eastons is though they are supposedly wide, they are about the only skate that my son (11) can wear without cauasing heel blisters/burn. He's worn or tried out all sorts, Grafs (735' & another I cant recall, maybe 502's) , Bauer Vapors, RBK's & other ones & to a skate he has had the same problem. He has a very narrow heel.

My analysis is that maybe the Eastons (he's had a few pair of 555's & now has S 15's) heel lock is very effective & therefore it works for him. All I know is that its about the only skate I have found that doesnt cause him pain on the back side of his heel.

Does VIII not equal 8 not equal eight? ;-)

Of course it does, but nobody referred to it as VIII. And since a lower-end model came out that was called the VIII, surely you can see where the distinction must be made.

Those skates are almost too narrow, I tried those out when they first hit the scene, and they killed my feet and I have hot dog narrow feet lol. Eastons are terrible, CCM's work decent for narrow feet if you get them in the C width ( which fits like a normal bauer ), Missions feet my feet pretty good and Bauers do as well. Grafs' narrow width is good, but just skating 3x a week I can destroy the stiffness of any Graf skate in less than 6months.

Really? Even the 7 series?

Yes really. It sucks, because Ive always liked the looks of Graf skates, but could never get them to remain stiff. Just imagine how pissed I was 10 years ago when I paid $600 for them in high school only to have my 735s (I think) melt like butter. I tried the G5's, the 707s, and a few others that I was able to scoop up on mean deals but could not get them to work for me. Oh well. One95s get the job done thats for sure.

Well, due to fitting issues, I might not have a choice. I am not expecting a skate to stay stiff like new forever, but its not like your ankle was flopping around after 6 months...if so, you need stronger ankles, right? Plus, I am not a fan of VERY stiff skates. My S15's didnt seem very stiff, and got less stiff after 2-3 months. The 1500s I have seem MUCH stiffer than my s15's, and I hate them. Cant wait to see if Grafs work so I can sell them.....hardly used pair of 1500's in 9R anyone?

709 would be stiffer than 735 and definitely 707.

A lot of it has to do with maintenance - if you dry them and whatnot they will stay stiffer.

Good. I keep my sh!t drier than a Nun's buscuit.

i find that easton skates aren't wide in the heel but rather, fairly wide at the forefoot. a regular in an easton is like a e or ee width in a bauer.

i find that the synergy's lock your heel in better than the current supreme skates.

The best skates for narrow feet in my opinion have always been Bauers, Grafs and Missions. ( Not necessarily in that order) If you have wider feet you would generally fit better in CCM's, Eastons and the Nike Flexlite line.

From what Ive been told, Grafs are for every type of feet....why not include them in wide? I have been told that I need to try the 709 due to my very wide and deep feet.

Yes the 707 and 709 are for wider feet and are slightly deeper but Grafs generally are for slimmer feet. I wear the 735 wide and I take an "E" in a CCM or Reebok. The 735 is a tight fit never the less but a comfortable one. I may try the 707 or 709 when I buy Graf next time.
