Majors

Ok, have some time on my hands now. But after reading everyone's majors, makes me feel _ big! Well, as mentioned earlier, I'm still a freshman in high school. And amazingly, I haven't been tagged this year! :D Anyway, I chose Ecomins and Business & Constitutional Law this year, pushing back Accouting until Junior year. Along with Accounting, I plan to be done with a language my Junior year and am pondering whether or not to take Entrepreneurship, Macro/Micro Economics, and/or CISCO Networking. I am leaning towards Buisness Ecomics or Marketing along with Entrepreneurship. Haven't the slightest clue as of yet for a college, but their hockey programs will play a nice role as well. Raleigh has a DI team I believe, and I heard that someone who's MidgetAA up here, can easily make their roster down there. Hoping something nice like that blossoms into the picture. I'd actually love to play on a competitive Junior A team than a Division II team in college, but seeing careers abrubtly ending(i.e.Moore), you think now that a good education is a must.

Not sure what my HS is in the country, but it's 4th best in New Jersey I believe, and NJ is the top-ranked state. If anyone has any sources, I attent Eastern Regional High School. Tier I hockey champs, Football champs, Wreslting Champs, and field hockey as well, field hockey team set a National Record recently.

I have a microbiology degree from Michigan State. I was on the 7yr program! ;) Unfortunately for us microbiologists, there isn't much money to be made for the kind of work we do. At least I have flexibility, seeing that I've been on this board all afternoon!

Don't suck anymore! Tier I has won the Championship quite a few times recently, Tier II and JV have nice teams as well. No offense, but today, CHE JV is HORRIBLE. They went 0-11 or so in JVB, 2-9 or so in JV A, not sure on the Varsitys' record, but most likely nothing spectacular. ;)

Thats easy for you to say Pika....You are on the road to high yearly salaries and tons of happiness and pride to go with it. J/K...Not about your future sucess though. Pharmacueticals are hot as a potatoe now.

Another thing that's on the rise is forensic accountants. There is a real shortage of them, and with all the corporate scams going on they are really in need.

We're the #1 school in SC, but that's not saying much as the state ranks around 42nd overall in the country..

That's a hell of a lot better than good ole Mississippi..

Trust me, no offense taken.

Woah another microbiologist. I agree with everything you said. And if anyone else was considering this degree, I wouldnt recommend it unless you like hard work, studying a lot, and getting paid less than you deserve.

Ya, Im not sure quite which one I want but ive definetly narrowed it down to the services. I dont want to take and extra year of high school, and with a lack of money for school i figured it would be the best thing to do. Why would you say choose navy over army? Just wondering.

To me, thats more of a reason to be in it. It just seems like something that would be really good to me physically and mentally while at the same time helping out my country.

Ya I have to agree with you. Its like someone posted earlier. You should look into getting into something your interested in. Army isnt the most laidback place, and isnt for everyone, but I think it should suit me well. Hockeyshark, how do you like the army? Driving that truck can be pretty stressful on a man

I'm currently in my first year, studying Software Engineering.

Not the bash you, but I dont believe this is a great field to get into at this time. When companys can outsource to india for enginers who work for $4 an hour, while the average worker in Silicon Valley makes $36... who do you think they are going to hire? Its an interesting field, but networking, wifi security, and similar fields could be of greater rewards

I've done my year in the army and I must say if you want to go into services, don't choose army. Hard to explain why, but (at least in Europe) it's the most unpleasant of the services in many aspects (quality of personel, unpleasant daily routine, bad/old equipment). My choices would be airforce in first place, Navy in 2nd.

I have a BA in Management Information Systems from the University of South Florida. I am working on getting a masters in Architecture currently. It is so true that you need to pick something that you want to do instead of what you think will be a good job and make you some money. I took computer classes and figured it would be a good field and make me some money, instead of going with the design and drawing that i was good at. As I work in my cubicle and type away I started to think what I would rather do then this, so that is what is making go back to school and get my master after being out for 3 years. Not that the money isnt good, but sooner or later 5 guys in India will be doing what I do for much less. So as a piece of advice to those of you that are about to experience one of the best periods of your life, do whats best for you and what makes you happy.

I'm not really too concerned about that. This, among the other IT fields will always be evolving. There is a lot of different things I can go into if need be. I really got into it because it was something I liked in high school and to a lesser extent, was good at.

IT people in this area are getting killed unless they're working on a government project. guys who were making $100K two years ago are taking $35K jobs and the guys making $35K are now bagging groceries.

IT people were WAY overpaid a few years ago. Our company never overpaid them because almost everybody in our company has an engineering degree. I have a friend who's looking for a new job because he wants more money. I keep telling him he'll be disappointed when he sees the offers. And even if he gets a job, if he happens to lose it within the next year or so, it'll be tought to get another one.

I agree about the jobs paying too much years ago. That said, you shouldn't need 15 years xp, masters degree and 5 industry certs for a $35k job.
