blume, you can go with pretty much any other holder and it will take some of that forward lean off. the boot itself will still be pitched forward, but that will be neutralized a bit by the holder.

I'm skating in 709s with black tuuk custom+ and they feel pretty much neutral. If you wanted a slight forward pitch, lightspeeds or E-Pros would do the trick. Pitch holders and steel are also very good, and you'll be able to experiment a bit with them.

It's also possible to just have your steel profiled to even them out.

The cobra holder is known to be very stiff which translates into a pretty good energy return. Their steel is known for being quite brittle, and loses edge quickly in comparison to other brands, especially if you skate on a deep hollow.

If you do get the skates, try them with the cobras for a few skates- maybe you'll actually like it.

Blume,

Bought Grafs two years ago, very happy with the purchase. What skates are you in now?

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Oh, and they are comfy!

I've had them for close to a year, but purchased them from a member here. Not sure how long he had them.

They're absolute tanks. No issues whatsoever, and I skate 3-4 times a week. Like you, as soon as I put them on, I knew I had found the right fit for me. I used to have to play with lacing or deal with pain, but they're like slippers on my feet.

I'm pretty sure I remember you...and, like I told you when I fit you, the forward pitch is due in large part to the aggressive nature of the Cobra holders. As I said then, the Tuuk Custom+ holders will pretty much level you out, while something like a Lightspeed (LS2, LSP, etc.) will get you back toward your toes a little more...and something like the PITCH holder (what I currently have on my Vapors) will offer you a few different options (they're a good, quality holder with probably the best steel I've ever skated on).

P.S. - Did Great Skate ever get that money back into your account?

Locust: That 709s/Black Custom+ combo must look sick.

Can't do it, man. We're not big enough to be matching prices with some of the larger stores which are able to buy their stuff in HUGE numbers and thereby get themselves a nice deal from the company.

We do, however, offer outstanding customer service, personal attention and general product knowledge. That has to be worth a few bucks, right?

You'd probably be better off going in there yourself and talking to someone about it. There is no reason it should take them this long to get the money back into your account.

I won't be there tomorrow (I'll be at the rink - on the ice - in the morning before the store opens, so I could stay into the early afternoon to help-out if you'd like), though I'm sure whoever is in will be of service to you. I'm 90% positive that I had you in a 709 size 10.0 N. We would be able to swap the holders for you, if you decide that's what you want to do.

I would swap the holders for Tuuks or Pitchs, Graf steel rusts more than any other brand that I've seen.

Blume,

Can vouch for Lkpt and customer service at F.R. Sports. They're a great shop and good people. It never bothers me to spend a little more when you like who you're dealing with and you're treated right. Service after the sale has been excellent as well.

I'm making the switch to the Tuuks thanks to his advice. Hopefully everything works out, if not my lack of skills will be put soley on the shoulders of Lkpt. It'll be all his fault.

Tufnel,

Never experienced rusting on my Cobras.

Lkpt, Where did you get the Vapors??

I'd been looking for a pair of Vapor 10s since after I made the switch to the XXs when they first came out (and I was no longer able to find "the good ones"). Started working at FRS, made mention that I was still looking for a pair - found-out that there were two pair buried in the stock room; a size 6.5 and a size 7.0...7.0 fit just the way I like (tight...really tight). Slapped PITCH holders on them and I've never been happier.
