Innovative composite tapered blade split down the middle within 45 minutes :(

Recommended Posts

I bought an Innovative tapered composite blade to put in a synergy II back last week. Some time in the 45 minutes I used the stick, the blade split right down the middle. I don't know precisely when it happened because I didn't take many shots in the game, only 3 or 4, but after the game I noticed the split. I'm chalking this up to a freak occurrance, and I'm probably going to try one more. I'm unsure what model the blade is - it just says Inno on the blade and has large weave carbon fiber like the warrior AK27. There was an obvious seam running the entire length of every Inno blade in the store so I didn't really think much of it, but it split almost the entire length of the blade right along that seam where the front face and rear face of the blade are joined.

I'm probably going to try one more and see how it goes. For the 20 shots or so I took with it in warmups, I liked it just fine.

Even though there's no warranty on this blade (the LHS made this point specifically when I bought it along with the Synergy II shaft, I wonder if that should've been a hint to me - "There's a 30 day warranty on the shaft but none on the blade.") I'm going to see if they'll work with me since it lasted such a short period of time. If not, I understand their policy is their policy and I'll live with that.

I may try to use that Gorilla Glue stuff and see if I'm able to bond it back together in some fashion to make it usable again for a while. Probably a recipe for failure but I've got nothing to lose at this point.

How many does your LHS have of these? Do they have any of the Innovative shafts? I wouldn't think that they would have many since I'm pretty sure Innovative hasn't been around for a couple years now.

That sucks but again it's pretty cool. I always wanted to see what the inside of a blade looked like. If you decide to totally open it be sure to take some pics and post them. Sorry for your luck though.

I got this at Perani's in Grand Rapids, MI. I will look tomorrow or wednesday for inno shafts when I drive back up there, any particular one you are looking for? Deitze is probably right though, I didn't notice any inno shafts I don't think I perhaps remember seeing one single inno shaft. They had a bunch of the blades, probably 20 of them in RH, more in lefty.

I called Perani's and explained to them what happened and the manager (I'm assuming she was the manager) said to bring it back with the reciept and they'll replace it with an identical piece which is fine with me.

I was just curious because I've heard good things about Innovatives old sticks, but never saw them at any of my LHS's and never used them. I think I remember a lot of people liking a 1100 shaft, I believe.

Perani's in Sterling Heights, MI had a 360 1100 shaft when I was there a little while ago. I wasn't going through the blades, but my friend just told me he got a couple of Inno blades in Weight pattern.

i really don't like this weave for blades, i had 4 true-ones split down the center like that, all with less than a games use, the first shot was nice though..

I hit up Perani's in GR this afternoon. They had three Inno 1100 shafts, all in 380 flex, two were standard and one was tapered. They also had probably 8 right handed Inno mega-lyte or whatever they are called OPS, and 2 of another model Inno OPS that I am drawing a blank on the name of (it was mostly white, with the Innovative name on it and some graphics of some kind).

I destroyed a wood blade and I found an interesting piece of metal in the middle of it. Almost like a staple, but it only had 2 of the 3 sides...

Yeah I found a staple in an old Franklin Air Core woodie

I had 2 and they both broke in the exact same spot in the blade

We had some utterly terrible Itech wood sticks that had all kinds of crap in the blades. I forget the model but they were absolutely awful. 5300 or something like that.

I would see a lot of blades with a staple or 2 inside back in my dekhockey days on a concrete floor. Guys would unload, and you would literally see sparks with the contact on the floor. The Koho Ultimate blades were infamous within that league due to the sparks.... guys would think they were harda**es because the stick sparked... "oooooh"

Do it to it!!

DSCF0021.jpg

Crummy focus but whatever you get the picture. The white colored stuff is a real hard foam it doesnt give at all when you push on it, there is a horizontal carbon reinforcement beam down the middle

The split wasnt as far around as I remembered but you can still see the guts, anyway I used it on concrete and it worked well for a while until it wore through the the carbon on the bottom then it was still fairly stiff until the toe split

Even though the toe is split I cant get it to open up any more, even tried taking a knife to it, but no dice

Just wanted to update, Perani's gave me a new blade even though they weren't obligated to, and i've used it for probably 6-7 games now with no problems.
