Mission PureFly 2003

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've just ordered PureFly 2003 skates from hockeygiant.com (only $139).

I plan to have the blade holder removed and replaced by a roller hockey chassis.

It is to replace my 4 years old Proto VSI (2000).

Just a few questions.

What are the differences between the PureFly and the S500 boots? Not much it seems, except perhaps in the tendon guard area?

Otherwise what's the overall quality of the boots? I'm very happy with my Proto VSI, but they are falling apart. In 4 years, I didn't have any problem, except that I bent one chassis (Mission replaced it). However the newer D1 skates don't seem to be as good as the old Protos, the materials seem cheaper and the lacing system is crappy.

I have the impression that Mission is becoming a major player (like Bauer or CCM) on ice. But on the roller hockey side, they are sliding down.

Lin.

Personally when you say they are "sliding in roller hockey", I think the exact opposite...Mission has just produced the lightest roller hockey skate (at Narch right now only) and in pairing with factory hockey, will have one of the sickest skates out there.....not to mention all of the effort Justin has been putting in (Nice job Justin :) ) Thats just my opinion though...

i agree with ^. Although i hate the looks of the top of the line helium skates, the statistics look to be very promising. I couldnt be more satisfied with my d1c and d2c's. Easily the best roller skate(s) from the manufacturer out there.

The new s500's are nothing short of great. They are the most comfortable skates i've ever had the pleasure of putting on my foot.

Four years ago, Mission's Wicked Light were already the lightest roller hockey skates.

Mission is not doing bad stuff now and I'm sure they are excellent value. But I'm a little conservative regarding skates, the DNA lacing is really awkward, and I really prefer traditionnal eyelets. Moreover, I have the impression that the material used are less good. The 2000 and 2001 VSI were mainly made of fiber glass, but the D1 and D1c seem to be made of a cheaper synthetic.

Their mid to low end stuff is pretty impressive as well. The pair of S300s i have is fantastic, zero break-in time and pretty light for the price.

I just bought a pair of S300's last week. I really like the fit and they feel quite light, too. Great skate for the money.

The M-2 shaft is going to my fiance so she can have a good stick when we play family shinny next winter. :D

No kidding :D

Just make sure you can get it back you break up or somthing. Great shaft even though there were some iniatial annoyances.

Well, we're getting married in May so odds are against us breaking up. Also, I ordered an intermediate M-2 shaft for her so I wouldn't want to use it anyways. It's 30 flex lower than what I use now so I probably would have some trouble adapting to the whip as well as the much shorter length.

You havn't lived until you've tried a shaft you can bend with your hands. (I'm 175lb, and prefer <80 flex shafts)

I'm 6'3", 290lbs. and I prefer 100 to 105 rated flex. I'd snap a 75 flex pretty quickly. Of course, I'm the kind of guy that likes to pound in nails in one shot ("Give 'er all you got!")
