I need a non-biased opinion here, what kind of dollars/years does everyone think he'll get?

*He cut all talks with Sabres until end of season.*

I think he could fetch 6-7 mill/yr from the right team with a longer, staggered contract.

He's one of the best offensive-minded defensemen in the league.

Given NHL free agency, the final contracts tend to be what I consider fair value + 25%. Kimmo Timonen got 6 years, 38 million and he was 32 when he signed his deal. Campbell will be 29 by the time he negotiates this summer. So you're getting more "prime" years than Campbell than Timonen. Timonen's contract is frontloaded (8 mil, 8 mil, 7, 7, 5, 3). So if that's an indicator that a prime year is worth 7-8 mil, Campbell might be receiving a huge offer come July.

Both him and the team made it clear that they want to talk again before july, but it sounded like lip service. I can see him hitting the market and getting around $7mill per, for more years than it should be....

Leafs will offer $8M and a no trade clause. Seriously though, the Rangers might want to take a look if they aren't going to resign Jagr.

Rangers have a lot of money coming off the books. Between Jagr/Straka/Malik/Mara/Roszival/Shanahan/Avery, there's ~20 million freed up. Lundqvist will likely require a pay increase and a long term deal. But opportunity for Glen Sather to throw money around will be there again next offseason.

The free agent class of defensemen is rather unwhelming: Campbell, Wade Redden, John-Michael Liles, Mattias Norstrom, Rob Blake, Brad Stuart, Adam Foote, Barret Jackman, and Dan Boyle. Rangers might have the motivation to throw a big offer sheet at cash strapped Nashville for Shea Weber or Ryan Suter, or perhaps even Dion Phaneuf if Calgary tries to sign Langkow/Huselius first.

They really need to sign him, but if not soon, he must be traded before the deadline. I would offer him 6+ million fro 5-7 years and if he balks at it, ship him off. He is arguably the best player in a Sabre uniform, but we cannot afford to lose another star with no compensation. If they blow this, no one will buy season tickets again!

You really think it will be that soon?

I do see him wanting to get out of Buffalo while the getting out is good though, as they probably aren't even making the playoffs, let alone going anywhere in them.

Odds that Campbell moves in a deadline deal?
100%

I dunno Chadd...last year the teams that pulled deadline deals for playoff runs were rather unsucessful, therefore I think teams this year will be more hesitant to throw picks etc at rental players at the deadline.

I think Buffalo wants to move him, I would pair him with Vanek, but nobody can absorb such a big salary cap hit for those two. We'd be talking $15 million. But if Buffalo wants to keep Vanek, they should trade Campbell for a superb setup man/center to anchor a Vanek/Kotalik line. Their decisions to let Drury and Briere go ruined the franchise...

lol Yes trading vanek would be the best move they could make by far

they only thing that I am afraid of is the team keeps hanging around the bubble spot for the playoffs, and then he isn't traded because the team is still in a posistion where they can't give up on the playoffs

I read the Hawks were shopping Ruuttu and AN Other and trying to get Campbell or Liles back in return.

If they'll take Barker as the other for Campbell that's a good deal for the Hawks.
