Very cool video. Great to see everything at once like that. On the flip side, I have seen similar tours of the Pens, and a couple of others.....and by comparison the other locker rooms looked much more grandiose and had more amenities. Anyone else feel this way also?

That's pretty much how everything at the X is laid out...more of a nice rink than a gorgeous pro arena (like the Habs and Wings). Maybe they want the players to feel like they're at work and not on vacation?

Yeah, I'd like to see videos from other team locker rooms also, for comparison. In MN they always talk about what a nice building this is for the players and fans, but I have no perspective (other than being in the stands in other arenas). This is the only locker room I've been in, and this video was produced by the local paper for the local market only.

You're right that the weight room looks pretty regular compared to some from other pro facilities. Heck, I'm pretty sure the UND Fighting Sioux have more lavish weight and hot tub rooms.

Too bad they didn't show what lousy music Gabby always puts on the sound system.

By comparison, with the Pens locker room tour that I saw all of the players wear a IR heart rate monitor during their workouts, and their trainer monitors all of them for the duration of their work out. All of the players are working out at the same time, but in a type of circuit training where group 1 is going cardio, 2 is doing plyos, 3 is doing weights, etc etc. And he can tell them to pick it up or drop the pace based on their current and target heart rates. Really cool technology, and the fascilities looked FAR more impressive than the Wilds.

The Wild's locker room area is VERY spacious compared to others..Its the general layout out the area underneath the arena. As for the rest of the arena..The councourse, seating area and dining area is top-notch compared to others in the league. Heavy pine beams and a northwoods flavor is the theme there.

Actually that is a very nice locker room. Lots of teams have less than that, especially at the arena.

I assume XCel doubles as their practice facility? You wouldn't have that much at the arena if you had a practice facility.

They usually don't practice at Xcel, but at the Parade Ice Garden in Mpls.

Hmm...what do they have there?

As far as I know, nothing besides the ice. It's a public rink (three sheets, I think), and part of the City of Mpls parks system. I haven't set foot in Parade since long before the Wild was just a twinkle in the eye of Bob Naegele, though, so I don't know if they've spiffed-up the place in recent years.

There's a lot of other events at Xcel. Concerts, rodeos, HS tournaments, etc. The place is rarely empty for a day, much to the detriment of Target Center.

They practice at Parade Ice Arena in Minneapolis quite often..I'm not sure why, but unlike some teams, they do not have an off-site practice facility. Considering that every burb and neighborhood seems to have a rink, I'm surprised that the Wild does not have an off-site facility.

I've played at Parade Ice Garden, heck I used to live above Parade in the Kenwood neighborhood when I was in my early 20s. It is the home rink for The Blake School as well or is it Totino-Grace? I'm not sure. I believe it has been renovated in recent years and is in a pretty nice area, just off of downtown next the Walker Arts Center and scuplture garden. It has three sheets that I know of, one of them is a smaller sheet exclusively for figure skating and toddlers, the other two are hockey-sized sheets. I remember the lobby being pretty nice for a smaller arena. Basically it is a rink for the downtown population. There is another rink located at the Old Milwaukee Rail Depot, but it is more of a recreational facility located within the Resdidence Inn/Waterpark downtown. Here is a link that includes a few photos.

From what I understand, they're planning on building one in the next year or two. I've heard St Paul and Maplewood for some odd reason.

Isn't Parade the rink that the Washburn hockey assosiation plays at? I remember having a tournament tourney there and it being really close to the X. In fact it was during the LPH Expo and went there.

Washburn Association plays at a bunch of rinks in Minneapolis..Sometimes they do play at Parade Ice Garden..sometimes at Victory Memorial Arena etc..I dont think the "X" is close to Parade since the "X" is in St Paul and Parade Ice Garden is in Minneapolis...There are quite a few rinks much closer to the Xcel..Maybe Charles M Schulz Ice arena or Highland Arena..Biff Adams Arena is there too..Probably at least 5-6 arenas within a 10-15 mile radius of the Xcel Center.
